Should of thought of this a while back. Where to attach anchor on the new boat...

I really never gave this much thought, I got a new Lewmar anchor and I dont see
us being able to reach over the bow to attach the anchor line like on the old Modified
front end flat boat. I normaly anchor the front on a line and sit along side the spread in
the open water. But what to do on the new rig. The current bow eye is going to be
out of reach for sure.

Couple pics of what im against.

Dave,
rig a 3 or 4 foot section of line to the bow eye. In the far end of it goes a shackle or thimble. Run the anchor line through the shackle or thimble and set it normally. Tie the anchor rode tag off where ever, in the boat bow.
When you go to retrieve it pull the anchor and the rest of the line over the bow and tie off for the run to the ramp. Remove the short line for the trailer ride home if you want.

I need a Lee Picture for this one.

Clear as Mud?

Dave,
Add a cleat and a set of chocks to the bow. Tie a small bouy to the end of the anchor line, when you go after a bird untie and drop the bouy in the water. When you come back pickup the bouy and retie.
Bill.

If I understand what you're attempting to get help with...

Here's what we do.

We've used this set-up just about everywhere. It's very quick and easy. Once set, when you have to move to chase a runaway decoy, or pick up a dead duck, just undo the line from the "Gripper", then throw the decoy "buoy" overboard. When you come back, just grab the decoy, (you can easily do this from the side of the boat), re-run it thru the "U" and tie off. Everything should be as it was.

We do basically the same at the stern of the boat too.

It's even easy when you're hunting by yourself.

Tip- we try to match the depth of the water with the length of the anchor rope, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 times water depth. That way you don't have a ton extra line out to get into trouble. (read-tangle in prop...)

Hope this helps,

Jon

BTW, fine looking rig you have there!

I like this idear, cause the U shaped clete thingey would keep the line off the paint and in good line with the bow point.

now where the heck do you find the clete thingey......
guess can weld one up worst case make it taller than my bow light and mount it behind it.

AHHHH Bow Chock got it...... why is everything CHROME...

West Marine has many different types.

They're actually called several types of "Bow Chocks"

Do a search. Although, I didn't buy mine there, I can't remember where...

Glad I could help. If you need more info, just ask.

Hi Dave -

You might want to check out Accon Marine. They make these cleats but with an added feature - they pop up for us and stow away flat when not needed. I've used various Accon fixtures on both my boats and really like this feature. When not in use, the don't get in the way of the blind material, your feet, etc.... They are slightly more expensive but the added features make it worthwhile I think.

We use a Harken Cam Cleat to lock off the anchor line. Very fast and easy to use, I know westmarine stocks lots of options.

My local Marina got me some black chocks will be in tomorrow. I mounted the big rope gripper last night
to the bow cap and put a chunk 6x6" of alum plate
underneath with fender washers on the bolts to further
reinforce that.

Had the boat out today to test the new dog ramp and anchored to that gripper and worked perfectly and
the chocks will be just the ticket.

Thanks for all the HELP!!!!

New ramp worked even better than the last version
on the other boat. He was able to get in and out
quick easy and dont have to touch him at all.

Now if I could get him to haul in less water lol.
