Silicone and Well nuts

So the blind I'm going to put on is made of 1/2" conduit and Bimini Hinges. But my question is can I use 100% silicone to seal around the rubber well nuts to keep everything nice and water tight or should I go with a different sealant/adhesive. The hinges will be on the decking of my Kara along either side of the cockpit.

I don't use silicone sealant for anything....never really cared for it in a boat application. I'd recommend one of the 3M products. If permanent, I'd use #5200. If you want to remove it....I think it's #4200.

Yes, they should give a pretty good seal. But I'd like to add a little more for piece of mind. I've got too many hours and money tied into it thus far to skimp on things now.

Get a rubber washer the size of the bolt and it will seal off the threaded portion....the other part should be sealed with the rubber pushing up from underneath. Silicone or anything else will just be a mess when you go to remove whatever you are doing.

I use Life Caulk. I filled the holes when I moved my transducer. Has never leaked a drop. Use it on my big boat also. Great stuff.
