Snaps or Commercial grade velco??

Has anyone ever used the commercial grade velco for holding canvas boat covers on or for covers over decoy storage areas? I bought some for the last project and never used it and thinking about using it on the new project. One side is meant to be sewed to the canvas/cloth the other side has and adheives backing. Not sure how long it would last, but I could epoxy it on too.

And if I do go with snaps, how do I darken the nickel finish? I remember something about this on the old forum, but didn't save it.

what about mud and crap getting into the velcro and "clogging it"? I have never had any experence using velcro in an application such as this but we all know the abuse duck hunting equipment may see from time to time. As far as the shin on the snaps i found some black nylon snaps at Jo Ann fabrics
http://www.joann.com/joann/search/search_results.jsp?CATID=cat1002&keywords=snaps i don't know if these may work or not.

Good luck

Ps where are the pics?

Andrew ,

Try Mcmaster.com that is where i bought my black snaps , i think they come in 18-8 Stainless and the caps are black . I have had mine on for 3 years and they are holding up well . They even carry Velcro as well . Good luck

Andrew, I am a big fan of Velcro and have used it to hold a cockpit cover on mine for 7 years now. Once in a while I have to pick out threads of burlap or outher trash but it works really well. I use it to keep track of my GPS also, never fell off yet. As far as the snaps go I generally reach for the spray can and let 'er fly. But then thats just me.
