Sneak box plans

Does anyone have or know where I can purchase plans to build a sneak box boat? I am looking for a boat to build over the next year. I have a 15 hp outboard for it. Thanks
Riley.

Riley,

There are many many many different plans available out there. I'm sure if you use the search function for the website, you'll get a good idea of where to start. All depends on the expected water/weather conditions of where you hunt, the kind of hunting you want to do, and what you need (a one man boat? two man boat plus dog? etc).

Many here have build sneakboxes using Devlin's plans, here's a link to his site: http://store.devlinboat.com/duckboatandsneakboxplans.aspx

Good luck

Anthony

As Anthony said there are numerous plans available.... first decide what/when/where you will hunt... then what skills do you have, and how much will you spend? Then we can better point you to some appropriate plans.

All of my hunting is done in shallow marsh water about a foot to four feet deep. We don't get real ruff water to often, nothing like a big lake or ocean. I would like to use it to hunt me a dog and one other person, or a couple of kids. I have good skills as a carpenter and have built a few other smaller canoes before. I have a huge shop to work in and time frame can be stretched out, I dont want to rush anything.

I just recently build a zack taylor wigeon, fairly straightforward to build and a very nice boat when you are done...not sure it would handle a 15 HP but maybe if you stiffened it up some. Plans are in Zack Taylor's Successful Waterfowling (ebay or Amazon) and I found following a couple of builds posted on here to be of big help as well.

here is my build and boat:

The only pics I have so far are the ones posted there, my wife and I just bought a house and I have been working on that ever since. I did hunt 9 of the 10 early season days but from my kayak as usual, this will be a more late season boat for me....and flyfishing rig, I can't wait to get it in the salt ponds this spring!

Look at the Devlin BBIIIs, for full performance you will need a 25 or 30 hp, but the 15 will do you for while.

Advantages of the stitch and glue designs are you don't need a form or frames and the inside of the hull is extremely clean (i.e., no ribs to allow water intrusion or catch debris), they are also easy to build with typical tools.

Thanks Tod. That is the design I am leaning towards.

Well, if you have the skills, it is a really fun process and you can make a beautiful boat. A forgiving technique, but you can't be sloppy with the basics of keeping square and level. The little things really make them nice. Round the corners on your exposed edges, hide your wiring and fuel lines, make compartments to hold your stuff, make it as custom as you want - that is the fun stuff. Lots of experiance here if you decide to build.

This is what makes this site great. Lots of input and help from others. Thanks to all. I will stay in touch when I start to build.

If you are getting Devlin plans, be sure to get the book and read it twice.
