I am concerned with the liability if something happens. The way my lawyer looked at it no insurance policy is bullet proof. Using your homeowners with an umbrella could bite you in the ass if something happens. Someone PM'd me and adjent and she is working on the quote now. At the end of the day the boat, motor and trailer are nothing if something happens.
I was always using my home owners with an umbrella but after reading the post from a member here from Montana started me thinking about looking into my policy. So for 200 or so bucks a year it's a gimeME.
I have my estuary under my homeowners. It covers damage and liability for boat/motor/trailer at home, on the road or on the water. It also includes some $ value for on board items. Not much annually to have it covered.
Homeowners policies usually have a cap on watercraft at $1000. Ask me how I know- I had one stolen.Amica covers my fleet including the two scull boats. Pictures went a long to clarify the type of motor boat being covered. Actually the homeowners policy covered small boats and motors I believe up 16 ft & 25-hp, but I would have to verify before swearing to the limits. I run a 25 instead of a 30 just to fall under that cap as I didn't get the rider boat policy till I got the 20-ft.

Ryan,
Believe it or not, my homeowners insurance (Geico) would only insure a "name-brand" boat, and would not cover my Estuary on the road or in the water. If it is in the garage when something happens, it can only be covered to a certain max together with all my stuff. Dave Clark had a fit when I told him...
That reminds me, I need to get separate insurance for the boat. Dave gave me the name of a company he recommended, it's in an email somewhere. Who do you use?
