Snow Ducks!

Well... Pete and I were hoping the pending storm would push birds around... and I certainly Jinxed us with bringing of the new GoPro...

NO NEW DUCKS!!!!! and the battery didn't hold a charge....

At least you were hunting instead of cleaning snow, which is what I did this morning. I measured 10 inches at my place and I think that was a "settled" measurement. I sure was heavy and wet. My blower had a tough time getting thru it.

That was yesterday... left the River as the snow was starting.. Had 6" by the time I got home... actually had to plow the road as Sarah couldn't get up the hill....

The boat does rather disappear though.....

I had the same thing here in Indiana Phil.....

I thought for sure that the birds would be flying in ahead of the storm, or at least with the storm. Wrong ! I saw very few birds this morning. I never had a single bird look at the decoys.

The snow did start about 4 to 6 hours ahead of schedule though. It wasn't supposed to start until after 4:00 pm. I had planned to hunt all day; however, the snow was coming down pretty good and I knew the boat ramp would be a white knuckle experience since I do not have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. I quit hunting just about 11 o'clock. I was right. The boat ramp was very slick but I made it out okay.

I guess thats why they call it hunting instead of killing..... It was good to be out though. I got a new to me 2 HP Yamaha for the MLB Chuck Huff. She didn't want to start last night but I finally got her fired up. I was worried about how she'd do this morning but she fired right up and we were off to the blind. I think the 2 HP Yamaha will be just fine. It eliminates me having to have an onboard fuel tank. I like that and I don't run long distances anyway.....

Yep.. I had great company... and Pete.. so his precision shooting.... and my pathetic shooting.... made for a good day.

Every day that everyone come of the water is a good day

Yep, a fun day despite the ducks. I have one picture from the reverse angle but all of a sudden can't access it on PB.

Well Phil and Dave
I can top both of you; we had over 17inches of wet snow ( 20 in some spots)which my John deer couldn't handle. My neighbor, with a larger John Deer was able to clean my 1000 ft driveway out but the main road off of my driveway wasn't plowed so I watched the Badgers give away their football game to Northwestern stuck at home :)

How about "Snow Pheasant!"? :)

We ended up with 16" officially. It seemed like a good idea to go pheasant hunting today. If I were 20 years younger it would have been an epic day. I'm not and it ended up just being a good day. Birds hadn't moved since the snow started. No tracks...they held great...dogs loved it...it sucked walking through all that snow. 3 of use ended up with 5, we would have easily limited if we felt like walking more. It was like an arctic death march. I think we are going to try to find places with less snow in the coming days.

Wiz....sorry to hear you got snowed in, but a day spent relaxing sure is a nice day (IMO)

Back home in Iowa I always looked forward to pheasant hunting the first snowfall. Seemed like even in lean years there was enough dumb roosters on the first day of snow to get a limit. Had some epic hunting in fresh snow!
