Snow goose hunting

Try Frontier Guide Service. They are out of VT., but like the geese he targets, he wanders where the birds are. Good guy.

Thanks for the reply Bill. Going to try out Delmarva outdoor adventures and also St. Lawrence river outfitters. I will report back to the thread on the hunts and the services provided so other members may benefit. Chris

Good luck Chris- You should do good with the Delmarva guys, I didn't know St. Lawrence went for snows, forgot about them, you should do good between the both of them. Don't forget to take the plug out.

Results are in..... hunt was a great success. My friend and I hunted a half day afternoon on sat and a half day morning on sunday. We hunted with DOA outfitters and Frontenac Fowlers both days. Sat turned out to be a better day than sun but we still had plenty of snows to shoot at on both days. My friend and I both left with a beautiful snow to mount and plenty of birds to eat. The guides were both knowledgeable and entertaining and they put us on birds, plenty of birds. Hope everyone has a great "off" season. Chris

Me too. I hunted snows 2 days up by champlain with a guy I met on the forum. We didn't slay the birds but what a spectacle of thousands of geese coming over. A lot of looking but few takers. Unfortunately lost touch with the guy, heard he might have moved out of state, and now would probably have to rely on a guide. This was all before the spring season was authorized for NY.

Chris,
Hunted near auburn,ny in a town called union springs. One of the local guides from the area Jay Barnes of Frontenac Fowlers teamed up with Joe Austin of Delmarva Outdoor Adventures from maryland and they hunt the birds on the spring migration northward. DOA outfitters hunts the birds all season in delaware and maryland and then follows the flight north through PA and into NY. Both the guides were a blast, down to earth regular guys who really enjoy what they do. I would book with them again. We shot plenty of birds and had loads come over for shots. Most shots were at 30 - 40 yds., not too bad. In the 2 half day hunts we had we probably saw in excess of 3500 birds. Most groups that flew in were in 100 -200 bird groups. We did see some groups that were over 400- 500 though. A few even landed in the spread (no ground blasting allowed!). We hunted out of field blinds, sitting up. There were approx 1900 decoys out, about 1400 silosocks and deadly decoys and the rest were shells and full bodies. There were also about a dozen flying/flapper type birds in the spread. If you drove past the spread you'd swear it was the real thing. The dekes really came alive in just a light wind. I suspect if we hunted out of layout blinds we may have enjoyed some closer average shots at the birds but I couldn't say for sure. Since I've never hunted snow geese or even field hunted for waterfowl I had a blast. Thought about getting rid of the boat(only for a second though) and trying to find some farms on the island to hunt, lol! Both guides have websites you can find on the internet. They also both provide all other types of waterfowl hunting. I am considering booking a diver hunt with one or both of them, one on the finger lakes with Jay and maybe one down in Maryland with DOA. Overall I'd rate the experience as an solid 7 out of 10, I was pleased and so was my friend Jim.

Steve King from www.eastcoastwaterfowlers.com (you might know him) here on LI sold his 23' Duckwater for a guide that plans to use it on Seneca Lake for diver hunting. There are a TON of redheads up there, my buddy lives near the lake and sees them all the time... but he doesn't have a boat big enough to chase them.

I am going to have to look up those websites, the buddy I mentioned above lives within 90 minutes of Auburn, we go to Bass Pro Shops there all the time. Sounds like a fun hunt.

Keep me in mind if you know anyone interested in my Marsh Hawk. I wish I could keep it, but gotta sell it to get something bigger.

Chris, someone asked about the boat on my thread for the motor in the classifieds. I told him to check out your thread for the marsh hawk!!!!
