Chuck,

Sorry!

As a person who, doesn't have a website, phone number, business card, or business advertisement connected with my "signature" on this site, I was just trying to give info to fellow duckboatoholics.

I have no connection to these advertisements, nor do I know these people advertising these products.

I do, however have a question. what's the difference between what I posted and other members mentioning Cabela's, Knutsons, Doctari,Mack's, and a myriad of businesses that I see mentioned in the Forum, on a daily basis, some even owned by members?

Just a thought!

Here is Eric's philosophy on this, and therefore the reason behind the rule...

Eric has spent much time pounding the cyber-pavement looking for good deals on craigslist, ebay, etc, and has not only found the rewards of hard work looking for that find that we all dream of, but seen items snatched up before him, or auctions gone crazy because someone with good intentions posted a "check this out" type of thing on forums. While the seller benefits greatly from this, the buyer who works hard can see the rewards of his labor disappear before his eyes when word gets out. If the buyer wants top dollar, he should get out there and advertise it himself. If he does that, he deserves top dollar.

There are some here who do not like this philosophy, but it is Eric's site, not a democracy. Hope this help you understand.

Best

Chuck

I like that it keeps the selling in the classifieds and limited to active members of the site. The policy works for me.

Geoff,

Isn't that only part of the quote?...... "Le roi est mort, vive le roi" !

I can understand where Eric is coming from as I have had that happen to me a number of times. I think the person that posts the information that causes the For Sale item to sky rocket is the childish one.

The marketplace that allows the most buyers and sellers an equal chance is the true measure of value of a good or service. On this forum I view tips on boats for sale part of the brotherhood of this site. Just because someone got the heads up on a boat for sale does not mean they stole it from you, rather it saved some clueless seller from getting the boat stolen from him!(ballbusting here fellas) I accept this policy on this site as I have been here a long time, but ther have been times that Ive run across a good boat that someone here could use and just let it go.

Bob,

I have NO problem with this site's rules. The vast majority of my posts are trying to help others with a problem/situation that they are in. I certainly don't "Know It All", but I'm 71, and have "messed up, screwed up", and generally found out how to do things by seeing how the two previous ways I did things, DIDN'T WORK! I'm just trying to help out fellow members, and certainly didn't mean to step on any toes.

I've been in education for over 43 years, (still at it) and have worked for many, many different administrators. I am adaptable to the change in rules/regulations/philosophies of those in charge. Sometime I forget that I'm not in a school setting where we try to make a level playing field for all.

Good luck this Fall to all on this site!

A guy has to be pretty fast to maintain a fleet of boats Art. Catch my drift....I can still call you with good boat leads.

One other point I'll make on this topic is we are a geographically diverse group. If craigslist ads re-posts are allowed there will be a ton of "heads-up" for areas not even close to you location. I really don't want to wade through for sale ads from across the county. If you want bargains then keep an eye on the classifieds ads in your area, whatever source that might be.

Mr. Tarr I'd really like to know how my policy is "childish". You threw it out, now explain your comment.

Jeff, for your information we are not the only forum with such a rule (though others might have different reasons). However I do believe on most forums they would simply delete the whole thread without explanation. The problem with that is then the original poster says "huh, where'd my post go?" and puts it up again only to get deleted. This repeats itself until a nasty-gram is sent from the moderator to the member. By putting up a public explanation of our policy I hoped to remind others of the policies we have here. So now I ask you, which method of handling the situation seems childish? You may disagree with how we run things here, but it works for Eric and myself.

As far as why Art posted the link, from what I know of Art from his posts here, I couldn't imagine he did it for any other reason but to be nice.

For those that don't know this exists, I use adhuntr.com to find all things Craigslist. Type in "duck boat for sale" for instance and you'll get every ad in every state that has duck boat in it. Hope this helps.

ED,

I've never heard of this site before, but THANKS!

You have reinforced my believe in that it's "Always School!" I say this to kids in schools, and they ask, "What do you mean?" I tell them that no matter how old you are, you should always be "Learning Something!" I don't want to die when I'm 71, and not get buried until I'm 87, if you know what I mean. Knowing about this site has just increased my "surfing" time on the internet.
