nice shots of a good mixed bag--I can almost smell the low tide mud on the bank--L I mud had a different odor than Delaware mud--Good memories of misspent youth on the island! Great shots of the broadbills!!

Looks like a great spot! It is always fun to get out with the camera!

Honest C&C... none of them are in focus...or are sooo soft that they do not appear to be in focus. Are you using a short lens and cropping?

Have fun with that camera

Thanks for replies .

I was surprised to see the Teal as well

First time really trying to use the wife's Canon EOS 40D, but I'll be sure to take more and post them up.

Thanks again for the replies.

thanks

i went out and took some more shots today and i feel like my lens is holding me back alittle its a 28 to 135 so ill be wanting to buy a new one soon any suggestions .

Rocky, the sky is the limit when it comes to Lenses. When you start looking at the Canon lineup you'll understand.
I use a f5.6 400mm L lens that I really like. It is fast.

i have the canon 40d

yea my wife had said a 400 or 500 would be good ill try to find something used if anyone knows of any good deals on a lens let me know .

ill keep shooting with what i got for now cause i cant get away from these dam ducks

Well.. I shoot Nikon.. but I would say that there is only 1 lens....100-400 L lens... If you want a quality lens for wildlife... without going stupidly expensive.

Rocky,

Just keep in mind that a fixed focal lenght ie:400mm will be better optically than a zoom lens. You could always add a 2x tele-converter to double the focal length to reach out if needed but again you will give up a little optical quality. In addition, some lenses you will also loose the AF capability and only be able to use it as a manual lens with the addition of a 2x tele converter.
If you want a decent aftermarket lens look into Tameron they are not bad for the price and optically they are pretty good also

John,

I picked up a 2x converter this summer and have experimented with it. It definitely makes a difference!! You do lose your auto focus though, but no big deal. It is a nice way to get some more zoom without breaking the bank.

Best,
Steve

John, that isn;t necessarily true anymore. There is very little difference in the new lenses.. and if you are compairing a 100-400 L IS lens ($1600) to a 400 f 2.8 L IS ($5800)... well the 2.8 is much nicer than the 4.5-5.6.... but weight cost and flexibility are disasvantages of the fixed. I have a 600f4 that I love but is a pig...

I think you might suprised how many of the shots that everyone drools over are shot with the 100-400 L lens.
