Some pics from yesterday---

Had a nice day considering that duck hunting wasn't all that hot. Ended up taking two in the early morning. Then I cut a cord of firewood. On my way home shot two more ducks and called it a day.

Chili was bringing in a nice looking Mexican/mallard hybrid.

While cutting wood I had this "Forest Nymph" land not too far from me, so I rushed over to the Mule to get my camera.

This is one of the reasons I like having Chili at my side when hunting. I hate losing cripples! Sorry for the abbreviated pics on this one. My battery went dead when Chili closed in.

I thought Chili once again became a black lab when she came out of the low flow ditch. That is some unforgiving muck.

From there I drove my four-wheeler to the Rio and tossed the Mexican duck for her to retrieve about 5 times. She finally started to look "yellow" once again.

When it was time to put Chili in the kennel, (left to right) Salsa, Pepper (expecting in two weeks), and Chance were waiting for us. When Chili gets too old, Salsa will most likely be the one I take on most of my hunts. She lives to retrieve! She is just a touch over a year old now.

Great pics as usual Al!

I always look forward to your posts! That Chili sure seems like a great friend! Spending time with my Xena and watching her passion to retrieve is my favorite part about hunting!

Nice crisp photos...Like the stained dog at the end of the hunt...Keep them coming..

Kristan

Great tales, tails, and shots of it all.

I went steelhead fishing today, and hope to shoot my first ever wood duck tomorrow.

No Matter what, I will take my camera and do my best
I'd like to "write it up proper."

Chili looks good with that mud/muck undercoat,

A dog is better when it is filthy dirty, it is just in their nature.

Nice pictures Al....do you only take one dog hunting at a time? And do you rotate them?

Thanks, Derek. Chili is my buddy----the two of us are almost inseparable. Bev will go to walk the dogs and if Chili gets out of the kennel, she will sit by the door of our house until I come out. I like doing what you said, "watching her passion to retrieve".

Hey, Kristan. Glad you liked them. Chili has been stained more times than I care to remember. I know by the end of the season she is pretty "rank"! She gets a good bubble bath then.

I have tried really hard to take Pepper along with Chili, however, with Pepper's (I want to be first attitude) it hasn't worked out the best. I trained Chili long and hard. Then when Pepper came along I took the two of them. The good news is that Chili helped train her better than I could.
Very soon now, I will be taking out Salsa to hunt with Chili. I like what I see in her and think that she has the makings of an outstanding retriever. Time will tell.
With that all said, yes, I usually take just one dog at a time. For two hunting seasons now, Pepper has been pregnant so she hasn't hunted.
