Some pictures of a 1 degree morning on the Maine salt

Troy, were you out this morning?

-12 at my house in Manchester. I'm guessing a little warmer down at the ocean's edge, but not much. I think I heard a -8 report from Rockland or Bar Harbor on the radio.

I supported the coastal zone season extension into January, and it seemed like a good idea last year, but I don't think I'll get much use out of it this year!

No Jeff, not out this morning and I was glad for it, -17 in Sanford, not sure about the coast. It will be interesting to see if the larger coastal rivers start loading up with puddle ducks now that all the inland is locked up. I have a couple more trips for December and that will round out what I booked. Hoping to get a couple hunts in during some of January's nicer days, it seems to be the calmest month out there in regards to the marine forecast. Enjoy if you get out, I had to laugh a little on your canoe adventure, I forgot my kayak at a coastal ramp a couple weeks ago, fortunately it got frozen in the slurry as the tide rose and was close to shore so that I could wade out and get it. All the best.

Troy/Jeff- Only -10 in Winterport this morning. If I can get my boat dug out of the snow bank tonight ( before it snows again) and thawed out, I may give it one more try on Saturday. Still hoping to hunt the Cape in January though.

Troy, from what I'm seeing, most of the coastal rivers are frozen. As of Saturday, there were big cakes of ice on the Kennebec in Bath, and the weather since can only have added to that. I'm betting some of the smelt shack emporiums are open already.

Both my trailered boats are now behind large snowbanks. It's canoe or kayak for my last hurrah or two. I may have to get a MASS license and embarass my sister around Christmas. She's just bought a house not far from some nice salt marsh and is hosting Christmas this year. I'm guessing a camo canoe and truck full of decoys will raise some eyebrows in her neighborhood.

Yes I'm sure you would Jeff, but then again, I've had my share of phone calls right here in So. Maine. Will be digging out the boat after this storm and before Friday's possible rain/sleet mix. I had forgotten about the local shanty towns up that way, that's always been a fun trip once or twice a year.
