Something that did not make Tuckerton.

I have been working on a piece for a friends 60th Birthday for a few months now. Even though it was ready for the Tuckerton show, I decided not to bring it and risk it getting broken etc.

It's not often you get a chance to do something really out of the box and as far as I know these are the only pair of Life size Flying Labrador ducks ever made.(They went extinct in the late 19th Century)

They are mounted on a 26" by36" oil on board painting I titled " Night at Sea". My idea was to capture the hen and drake migrating down some long forgotten stretch of coast at night.

You have a really lucky friend. Those are beautiful. Really cool combination of sculpture and flat work. Luke

Thanks Guys, it was fun to do and the flat work was challenging.
Let me clarify my original post. I made them for my friend, but they were a gift from his wife.

Wow! Nice work! Maybe I should forward this thread to my wife by "accident"... plenty of time before my next birthday! :)

Corey, Peter and Ed, Thank you.

Kris, you caught me, it's actually on the way to L.A. as we speak.lol.......

Bob, Thank you. Your recent Pintail and Lab painting helped to inspire me to stick with the concept and see it thru to completion, even though I don't consider myself a "painter."

Tim, This friend started collecting Labrador ducks a few years ago , as something different . So the piece needed to fit in the larger scheme of things.

Dave, Thanks. The background scene and composition was my biggest challenge and I spent alot of time second guessing my choices. I appreciate the feedback.

Justin, Thank you, really the only difference is time and practice. My friend Sean can attest to the fact that I was not especially gifted when I started and I still struggle at times to get my hands to make what my head envisions.

Anthony, I think your on the right track, our wives need some clues right!?

That is awesome. THe cool factor is off the chart.

For years I've had an idea to do something sort of like that with a pair of passenger pigeons or small flock of carolina parakeets. I'm not sure if you have inspired me or hit me with the realization I could never do them justice like you have done to these Labradors. :)
