So my wife gave me the green light to look into getting a new boat that I could use for duck hunting (layout) and some fishing. I found a few locally to look at and she didn't seem to be to impressed with them. She decided she wanted something with a bit more diversity. So I found one for sale that was rather large...a 28' Contessa, I sent her over the info merely as a joke asking if that would suit her needs...bad idea!! "Oooo, I like that" was her response to my JOKE. I promptly told her that was way to much boat for my needs and she pretty much made it clear that was the type of boat she had in mind. She also made it clear that HER life doesn't revolve around duck hunting and that wouldn't be taken into consideration any longer. Great!
So I continued my search for something a bit more manageable for me and would also satisfy her wants/needs. So here's what we settled on...my new duck boat...Um, fishing boat. It's a 23 foot Trophy Walk Around. I had it out for a test drive last night in some 3 footers on Lake Ontario and it seemed to handle really well. We'll use it for perch fishing and drifting for walleyes this season on Lake Erie. My plan is to have it rigged up with downriggers for next season and go after King Salmon on Lake Ontario. There goes the savings account! I know it's not a Grady or Whaler, but it will suit my needs and get me some much needed experience under my belt until the day we can afford something bigger / better. We're picking it up this Sunday on our way back from climbing in the Adirondacks.
