Sporting Clays...

If you haven't shot sporting clays before, you should seriously consider it. I find it is the best help that keeps me tuned for duck shooting. I've been shooting sporting clays regularly for 3 years now and have really noticed a difference. Yesterday, our local Boy Scout Council had their sporting clays fundraiser. Our team won both the Scout Skill category and the overall. On our team was yours truly, Kirk Ijams, Luke Ijams, Jeff Idelmann and Dave Ludington. We were blessed with a great day and outstanding fellowship. One of the few times you'll catch me not shooting an 870... :)

Pat, have been shooting sporting clays for a few years now. Went to Ocean City Md for the decoy show and ended up shooting clays one day... Had quit trap for years, got bored. Found a new passion, shoot every weekend. Fun and good practice. Glad you enjoy it... Lead them on the front side...

Sporting Clays is just a ball! The Connecticut Waterfowlers Association is hosting their annual sporting clays event at the Fin, Fur, and Feather club on June 21. It's always a good time, and the money raised goes to a good cause.

Looks like a good time! I started shooting sporting clays four yearsago or so, and have gone from a consistent single digit shooter to a consistent mid 40s shooter. I find it interesting you swap guns, I can't do that. I shoot the same one all the time, even though I have a few. Anything else throws me off!

Sporting clays is a blast. I have built a 5 stand at my home club and I have just had my first true in the woods sporting clays shoot last week, at my club. I shoot more clays than ducks because clay has no season.

Pat,

What a great time....from shooting with all of you, to you and I discussing what our next decoys to carve will be. Perfect weather, perfect friends and though we did not shoot quite perfect it was a perfect day to help raise money for the Scouts. Thanks for asking me to be on your team.

Dave - Glad to do it. I wish I had a dime for everytime we laughed, encouraged each other or, high-fived each other. Like duck hunting, the fellowship is the best part.

Tomorrow, our Illinois Prairie Delta Waterfowl Chapter decorates the sporting clays course at Oakridge Sportsmen's Club in Mackinaw, Illinois. The course is turned into a waterfowl sporting clays course. Included are a snow goose station complete with snow goose decoys and targets launched very vertical. Also included is a Canada Goose Station complete with goose decoys. The shooter shoots from a layout blind. There is also a duck station. Participant shoots from a boat. Also a specklebelly station where participant shoots from a bucket in a pit. And, this year, we've added a diver station where targets are launched across the shooter, 3 feet off the ground where participant shoots from a layout blind. Should be a good day! This is a great fundraiser for Delta Waterfowl and, we get a great turnout of shooters.

I'll see if I can post up some pictures... Pat
