Spray on bedliner users...

I know some of you have used or have had Bedliner sprayed on you boats. I thought while I was dressing the old girl for the up coming season I might like to have the floor of mine sprayed. I took the boat to a local body shop that I had heard did bedliners and got a quote. He measured the width and length got out his calculater and quoted $400 out the door. I know there is some prep and some masking. He measured my floor at 55" across and the inside length at 12'-6". For those who have done this does this sound like an average cost or should I keep looking? He did not say what product he uses and I did not think to ask. What is the average pickup bed cost?

Not sure if you're interested in doing it yourself but you can get a whole spray-in bedliner kit, complete with gun, for $180 from Southern Polyurethanes. All you need is access to a compressor. I've used a lot of their products and they are top-notch, with excellent customer service. Just an option.

That's about what I paid to my 1756, although I took it back and had him do rest of the inside up to the and including the rails. I've done 2 truck beds and a trailer myself. Iused Herculiner for my truck and it has held up very well. I used whatever Walmart sells on my son's old truck, it was ok but def needed 2 coats. Same thing with the brand that NAPA has, we used it on some of my trucks at work.

I know your question was in regard to boats, but I had my boat trailer sprayed with Rhino liner by an auto shop and 10 years later it has not changed. No rust and no need for a new paint job. I have a double axle and back then it was around $200, so that makes your boat price not so bad.

Ed I always use a roll on by Rustoleum. Roll on coat, sprinkle it with mason sand then apply a second coat. You will have a bullet proof non slip floor even if you decide to paint it.

Ed, i did my jon boat with Rustoleum bed liner spray-on (can) and i think it came out good. I did two coats. Just make sure you clean the surface and mask real well, the overspray is more than you would expect.

I had my boat trailer frame done at Line-x a couple of months ago. It was $800. After I saw the job they did it was worth every penny.

Thanks for the replies, tips and suggestions. After some further research I believe I'll leave this one to the pros. I can see me making a big mess in the garage doing it myself and if I lived alone it wouldn't be a big deal but I don't.

Ed,

At a young age, my father introduced me to what is called the cost-aggravation factor.

How much is it going to cost to pay someone else to do it?

How much is it going to aggravate you to do it?

Then figure what road will be best traveled

Lol...Sound logic for sure. I'm finding there is an age coorelation as well. The older I get the easier I get aggravated. There is also that point were you ask yourself. Why am I considering dropping $400 into a $250 boat? Too early...I need more coffee!

the cost-aggravation factor

IF only I could get my wife to understand this we could avoid me spending 4 weekends to do what would take a professional carpenter about 4 hours..........

just a newbie here............but I'll add........I am good at two things....
selling electrical supplies for more than what I paid for them
and writing checks to people who are good at what they do

man has to know his limitations

I agree with the cost/aggrivation factor and I get older and have a little more money it gets easier to pay somebody to do the job. That said I used Hurculiner truck bed stuff. It was a roll on and I have been very happy with it. It has been in my boat for 5 years and is holding up great and it was easy to do. It costs $100 and I got it at the local auto parts store. The down side is it only comes in black and gets HOT in the summer. but for duck hunting it has worked well. I have thought about getting some outdoor carpet to cover the floor in the summer that I can take out for duck season to remedy the heat on bare feet.

I'll add that the guy that did mine sprayed it olive green, almost a perfect color to my boat and it does not get hot in the summer. The reviews on the stuff that Cabela's has were not good when I was looking.

That is because we are duck hunters. Winds blowing NW 23mph, 2-3 footers and 99% chance of rain is good news to us.
