I am unsure if you guys want to me to post a running of my process on my build. But I will do this each time I move a bit forward. And for those who want to share or give tips or advice can jump in.

This boat is being built out of red cedar (to keep the weight down). I got the timber from the shop today and then back to work and put it thru a thicknesser (first day back at work after xmas) brought it home ripped the gunnels and the second pic is soaking them for a couple of days. I got an old down pipe and blocked the end (don't have a handy pond to put them in) and have just slotted them filled it with water. As its summer here the water will get quite warm, as I have already done a test and it bend rather well.

Back to the first pic is of my garage, the first thing you will notice right in the corner is the most important thing in their. The beer fridge is quite handy lol. I have done a full scale drawing (thats the joiner in me) and have made a cockpit out of scrap timber (yeah and I have spent a few hours wasted in it already).

Another tip on the soaking of the gunnels. I don't have a pond next to the house and didn't have any 14' pipe handy so I just leaned them up against the house (between a window sill and a stake in the ground)and bent them and then several times a day I'd go out with the hose and spray them down. Every day I'd bend them a bit more and after a week they almost held their final shape on their own.

By all means, please keep posting. Like it was already said, project posts are what this machine runs on.
Also, I know it's a typo, but your title gave me a chuckle.

If you're doing a "Kara Rubber", wouldn't a rubber boat require rubber duckies.
Sorry, that was just too easy to pass up.

Ok I have made a few changes. I emailed Mark and he gave his views on his robber. So I have decieded to make a full scale model. And see for myself what Mark told me about in that email. I have made this one with untreated timber and will be using untreated ply. This will be cheap as it has come from the factory waste bin. I will seal it with resin and glass it and see if it is working for me as I am one of those fussy buggers that like to have everyting straight and string lined.

All the ceder I have brought will sit waiting for my next build. See you guys have already got me hooked. I have had a great deal of pleasure already and I have only been playing in my garage for four nights after work so far. Pics are where I am at now.

The next pic is me now bending the gunnels. Yes it was fun. But the rewards came from soaking them.

So you can see with this one how far I have got.

Now I am just playing with my cockpit. I will make a better one but that was my play model.

Now this is the front and back views.

Now its time to call it a night. Over the weekend much more will happen.

Looks good Rob, did any of what I said in the email make sense? I'll be away for the next week so if you have any questions shoot me an email, it will be easier.

JMiller,
Yes, we're shooting rails in that pic. Shot a few last year but didn't get the boat in the water for a full day of it.

Rob,
thanks for the post. Look forward to following your progress. It's been a while since anyone's posted their build and I miss it. thank you! (even if it is going to be made of rubber?)

Up date from last weekend. I've been a bit slack sorry. I have have changed the wording in my title, I think I got it wrong but I am building a Robber not a Rubber (we have them here too lol).

My frame with out the cock pit on.

This last pic is me playing with the ply to fit the other ply to it. And getting the angles ready before sealing.

PS This weekend I am hoping to get it sealed and the bottom ply on.

Very nice, Rob. I have a feeling you're going to really like that boat. Keep the pictures coming. Can't wait to see it finished. Looks like it won't be long.

Sorry I've been side tracked with out things.

I finished up to this stage of glass two weeks ago. I sealed everything inside with Indernational Everdure clear epoxy sealer. And then just painted with a good quality house paint. Have everything to glass it but its my summer goose season and I am just a bit busy doing that at the moment.

Way nice! I'm jealous. Finished mine a few years ago. It would be nice to build one. It looks great and I know you will have lots of fun in it.

Man thats a slick build, thanks for taking the time to document with pics. Really lets a guy see how it's done and say to himself that it wouldn't be that hard to build one of my own. I've built some cedar strip canoes but that's it and that was over ten years ago.
Only four months to go until the Oct 1st opener here in NB.
