I was reloading up at the shop this afternoon when I heard some Tom's. I grabbed the camera off the ATV and took a hike up the mountain. Here is part of what I saw.

SPRINGT-3-1.jpg

There were 4 Tom's in the flock. On the way back down I heard more birds down near the barn and even with the telephoto maxed out, this was all I could get of them several hundred yards away.

After taking some pic's, I decided to go up and check the tree stand by the bear trail.........they are back to using the trail again.

The bears are starting to pass down the mountain on this trail again as can be seen here. This trail will look like a freeway within another 30 days, smooth and not a leaf on it.

They are not too tidy about their trail manners either, one bear, one stop and the job is done! This fresh pile was full of ground squirrel fur. This time of year the ground is soft and easier to dig them up. Thank goodness they use rabbits to wipe with. Otherwise there would be TP everywhere in the woods! :^)

Dave, What kind of setup do you have to take such wonderful pictures? Specifically your lens. It must be a monster.

Model number DX7590 5.0 MP which gives you a photo that is 2560X1920 pixels. Has a 10X Zoom lens (38mm to 380mm). It looks like a 35mm single lens reflex, but with more gadgets on it like a macro lens, high speed photography and VGA (640X480 12fps video/audio movie cabability for short videos up to 30 seconds in duration. One back of the camera is a 2.2" screen that you can see your photos on if you want to review or delete any of them.

It has a 32MB internal memory which is nice when you are a dummy like me and forget to put your chip back in the camera after down loading the photo's. I like it's drop in charger that keeps the batteries up. Of everything I have ever used that takes batteries, the battery in this camera is amazing. Last October I spent two weeks hunting birds in Montana, I took over 400 photo's and never changed or re-charged the battery I stated with. That even included a whole day taking flash photo's inside the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum on the way home.

BTW I bought this camera at Wal-Mart for $398.95 3 years ago. I have taken thousands of photo's with it and it still works like the day I got it. One of these days I'm going to get around to reading the 1/2" thick manaul to see what it will really do. :^)

The Spring bear season opened on the 1st. and I have 2 Spring bear tags to fill. I'd like to wait until some of the really big boys come through. I don't want to shoot any of those dinky ones like the one I got last November.
