stoeger shotgun

Saw one turn into a single shot last week for several vollees until the guy oiled something in it. It happened last year too. It may be the lube he uses...not sure.

I got one at the beginning of this season. no complaints so far, and you can't beat the price . I did see an add for a new model that will chamber 3 1/2".

I have one best gun for the money I have shot 5000 plus rounds through it with minimal mantinance and i like the fact it comes in at just 7 LBS nice alround gun.

I also have one and have thousands of rounds through it, guess I never really counted. But two years of duck and goose hunting and two summers of sporting clays. Never had a misfire and never had a jam. I love it. I also know two other guys who have had enough problems that Stoeger took the gun back. Jamming, no third shot, back to the gunsmith again and again, etc. I think it really matters if you get a Wednesday gun or a Friday gun. But for that price I would definetly take the risk again. Mine got knocked into the mud this year while hunting the Miss, unloaded it, swished it around in the river, and kept hunting, shot some Rem oil in it and gave it a good cleaning 3-4 days later. Very dependable in my eyes.

I have had very good luck with mine. Although Benelli guys will deny it (my regional rep did), the action in the Stoeger 2000 is the same as the old Benelli M1 12ga. Benelli still makes a 20ga version of that gun, but not the 12ga.

As mentioned by others you will want to keep it well oiled, but I believe that to be true with any auto loader. Instead of gun oil I use Breakfree, seems to work well.

Bought one a year ago, and enjoy shooting it. I need to take the trigger group out and clean it again. You have to take the whole gun apart and clean everything when you buy it to get the junk out of it or it won't function at all.

It had some trouble this year cycling shells early one freezing morning. After a few clearing actions it was fine. When first shot on the skeet range last year one of the pins for the trigger group backed out a little, but this has not happened since. My gun does not cycle well on the cheap Estate target loads. About every 15th or 16th shell will not come out due to the low pressure. This is an ammo problem and not a gun problem. With these shells the slowness of the action is very noticable and you have to wait for the second shot. This does not happen with the 1550fps kent duck loads.

On many posts across the various forums people will state that these guns kick too hard. Umm...if the kick of a M2000 is too hard for them then they should try my 686 Essential O/U with the 1550fps steel loads. After they come out of the coma I'll ask them if the O/U had more kick than the M2000. Of course having been knocked out they may not remember just how bad the O/U was and still think the M2000 kicks more.

The only maintainence thing I don't like about the M2000 is that my black finish one has a hard steel chamber piece that is blued and not finished with the same stuff as the rest of the metal. The tail of the vent rib rests on this blued piece of steel and that is the only place that rusts. I have the habit now of spraying some oil on that one spot on the gun before and after a hunt.

This fall I hunted from a blind with my friend about 3 feet to my right. After a few shots I noticed that my empties were about 6 feet to his right outside the blind. I asked him if the shells were hitting him and he said he didn't even know they were flying by him. I think they were going behind him. Anyway this is an issue with many auto loaders and a good reason to wear glassess.

The M2000 swings well and it mounts well. Maybe if you are 5'4" or less it may need to be cut down. I was thinking about a 391, but didn't like the feel of the grip on the stock. I like how the M2000 feels in my hands compared to other higher cost autoloaders. It is a nice workman's tool.

Thanks Ray and all you guys. I shot a black synthetic stocked 2000 yesterday. Like the way it handles. It kicks some (not as bad as an A-5 Browning). Think I'm gonna buy one for Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all believers,
Harry
