strap handles for a layout boat

somebody once posted a site for nylon mesh/rubber handles that are used on layout boats -- anybody remember where they can be purchased??

thanks

I think they were the same think Kayaks use. My old Chinook had a 1/2" rope with a carbon fibre tube that was hand width for a bow and stern handle.

making it THE ONLY worhtwhile part of the boat....if you're in the market for an excellent handle thats the one I'd go with....(and in fact thats the one I used to replace all of the handles on my MoMarsh boats)....

What are you saying about Aquapods. Keep the handle and throw out the boat? Come on now.
"THE ONLY worhtwhile part of the boat"

its well known here that I really, really, really like MoMarsh boats and really, really, really really, dislike AquaPods, (notice the additional "really" which is indicative tht I "dis-like Pods more than I "like" MoMarsh), sooooooo, as a clarification....YEP..that's what I meant..throw away the boat and keep the handles....

This "dis-like" does come from experience BTW and I have owned all three lengths of the pod and with each one couldn't get rid of them fast enough....

So consider my comments as an unsoliscited product review...sort of like the one this morning about "big box stores"...or the ones recently about the Government...that is my personal opinion and not that of the site management...

Please take this as a fact finding question only. What is your beef with them? I have a 12 footer that has not hit the water yet. Got it fairly cheap and I know I could sell it in a heartbeat on the East Coast. I am just curious, as so many people love them. Is it the stability, tracking ability, lack of transom....
I regard you as somewhat of an expert on duckboats, so please educate me. I am really just looking to gain from your experience and knowledge.

don't have the room that you would think that they would....I can't lay back and put my shoulders through the cockpit opening on any of the three boat lengths and I don'thave enough room for me and the dog to hunt out of the cockpit at the same time..neither one of those things is a problem for me with either of the MoMarsh boats....the lack of interior cockpit space also makes it more difficult to carry the number of decoys that I like to carry...

Pods track like the little round bottomed "pods" that they are....which means "for crap"....they pole just as poorly....

You'll here "the Pod is LIGHTER" than the others and thats true if you are comparing the 10' pod to the 13' OAL's of the MoMarsh, or other boats of that length. Well, OF COURSE, a 10' boat is lighter than a 13' boat.....wt. of the 13' POD compared to the MoMarsh, (and so that someone doesn's shout THERE ARE OTHER BOATS THAT ARE AVAILABLE lets "pretend" that I'm using MoMarsh "generically" for all of the boats in its class--I'm not but we can pretend that so that people like Brett Daves doesn't jump on and shout "foul"--and he is, of course, welcome to jump on an extoll the virtues of his favorite mfg. if he cares to).

Fact is is that once you get up into the 13' length its not the wt. of the boat that is an issue its the awkwardness of the design, (from a cartop or truck bed standpoint), that is the problem....wt. means little, at least to me, in that length and as a result wt. is the least of my considerations when choosing....

I'm also found PODS to be somewhat fragile in construction...I've never seen one that had much age on it where the keel wasn't rubbed through to bare glass, (and this I find interesting since thats from dragging and since "lt wt" is the biggest selling point I have to ask, "whats up with that". I've also seem Pods cracked by what I would have considered a "normal" amount of pressure on tie down straps. To much pressure on the straps and the it starts crushing.....I've not seen that on the MoMarsh boats...

I'd also add that unless the Aqua Pod prices have come down SUB-STANTIALLY in the last 6 months from the outrageously high pricing that they had jumped to that they are incredibly overpriced for the product that is received....

So for my purposes any of the small boats, other than the Marsh Rat, beats the Pod for room, tracking, price, durability and overall functionality....

I will say that they are stable....

Thanks Steve. I will keep my eye out for a Momash to see if I can give it a test drive. Since I am not that tall, I think me and the dog will fit just fine. Thanks for your opinion. I will watch out not to tighten the tie down straps and maybe think of some wy to protect the keel. Any ideas ?

Thanks

is designed correctly so that the problem isn't created, (sorry I couldn't resist), you can either wait till it wears through and then re-glass, or, a better fix, albeit expensive, is to cover the keel with the plastic product called, "keel shield" or one of the clones....if applied correctly it will never come off and you could drag the boat behind your truck and not damage it...be aware though that its expensive and that as far as I know the smallest strip that you can buy is twice what you need so you'll either be left with half of it, or you'll need to find someone that will split it with you....

If you go that route let me know as I might know someone that would do that....
