SturDee Dory

Just wondering how suitable a 16 foot Stur-Dee Dory would be for waterfowling the Connecticut coast? I use the boat for fishing spring through fall. I'm new to waterfowling and wondering whether I should just keep it on a trailer next fall/winter. I guess the white hull is not ideal? Any advice would be geatly appreciated! Thanks

Mike,
I am making two assumptions. First is that you are running the Amesbury Skiff. Second is that you dont want to paint it.
Dave Morton in RI put on a clinic in Dec with his "Rock Blind"
One of the best I have seen for the New England Coast if there are rocks around.
The Idea is that you use a frame (Like Carls) to give yourself a bit of a hide in the boat. Then you use very dark landscape fabric (Black like the rocks at low tide) to drape around the entire boat. I believe Dave had some bungee sewn into the fabric to help attach it. I did not know where he was from 300 yds out till I saw the decoys.

Pick your days and start in more protected areas at the start. Anchor near the rocks and see what happens.
I prefer a boat with a splash well at the motor in the winter but dont have one at this time.

Thanks Bob.....it's an Amesbury Dory and probably don't want to paint it. The Dave Morton "Rock Blind" idea sounds great! What is Carls frame
like? hopefully I can find some info on both. Thanks again! Mike

See post below on Avery Quick Set Blinds. Carl has a good picture of how he built a blind and you can rig one on your boat.
