Sundance or carolina skiff for hunting

Does anyone use a skiff for hunting? I am looking at a carolina or sundance skiff and would like to here if anyone has experience with one of these boats. It would be mainly used for open water Seaduck hunting and tidal rivers, shallow water. I am concerned that the large flat bottow will beat you in any waves or chop. In comparison to alum boat I would guess it would be better? any help would be appreciated.

Don't know about the sundance but i do know of 2 instances where a Carolina Skiff (with a blind on it) rolled over as sonn as they were swamped in weather. One was right here on the York River in 1998.

A guy who hunted with us back in '98-00 had one. It was a16' with a 30hp. Very roomy boat, well constructed. Great in shallow water.
But it beat the shit out of him in the river & on the bay when the chop picked up. I rode in it once in choppy conditions and that was enough for me.

Carolina Skiffs are dangerous in big water. They belong in protected shallow sounds. I'd assume you'll be seaducking in Del Bay or The Chesapeake and it's tribs.

There are plenty of folks out there that run them without a problem, and the new hull designs seem to be better.

You would be better off with a c-hawk, privateer....etc. Someting with some V to the bow.

Don't know anything about a Sundance.

thanks for all the help. i have a parker, i will just keep it. i was worried about ducks not coming in to the big white boatbut they are pretty stupid. We shoot at them and they come right back.

my uncle has a sundance 18j I think I know its 18' cc with a 60 yammy 4strk on it with 3 guys at 225 a peice it wont get on plan we had to ad trim tabs but still a little slugish the motor is the maxium recomended for a 4 strk by the manufacture but I would recomend a larger motor if you willl be hunting out of it with the gear and all. nice boat has the tri hull not the best for rough waters but probably better then a flat bottomed skiff.

The Parker will do more than fine, and most importantly get you home safe.

Cut some burlap and drape it over the sides just down to the waterline. It'll knock down that flash that a white boat will give when rocking in the sun. Haul it in the boat and run home once you limit out.
