synthetic blind material - ??????????????

If any members can recommend specific products and advise how they applied, I would be grateful. I want to change my grassing job on my TDB from natural to synthetic at some point for a number of reasons. I thought that there was a good cabelas product that came in bundles but apparently they only sell a "prairie grass" in 4 foot sheets with this year's customer reviews very negative, not to mention, I need something that I can pull off from a bundle and not already in sheet form.

Have some nice netting from memphis net and twine that can serve for anchor points for zip ties or other fastening. It's black and strong and I have a way planned to cover most of my hull with it...................now I just need to zero in on the right stuff.

Would need material that can stand up to highway speed and that is in a natural color that I can paint or dye to match my salt marsh.

Greatly appreciate any info members can provide.

thanks -

If your hooking it to netting then the avery killer weed is good. You can find it on cabelas or ebay a few other places too. I have seen guys do there boats that way with zip ties it turned out really well. Maybe some guys will post up there pics of there boats

From my understanding killer weed is dyed rafia grass which is pretty rot resistant if you let it dry out properly and you can definitely get several seasons use out of the stuff. It is not synthetic but does blend into surroundings very well. Google 'rafia grass' if you are going to buy in bulk for a boat.

The only synthetic grass material I have seen was from Mojo Outdoors - ghillie bundles.

They also sell a net blanket with the bundles attached.

And as the reviewers state it is shiny plastic. Other than lots of painting with Ultra Flat paint you would need to let it sit out in the sun for a few months to oxidize and loose much of the shine.

Another option for synthetic material are flower arrangment supplies from a craft store. There is a plastic grass and looks just like the sedges we have up here. However the color is only great for July and not for hunting season. I would have to paint every stem. And here I though dying raffia was a chore.....

As the others have recommended I would go with raw raffia grass (Cabelas prarie grass is raffia with really bad dye work) and color it with RIT dye to fit the surroundings. Keep it dry and it will last for years.

Thanks for the info guys..........lot of conflicting info out there on different products and it sounds like the natural color raffia with some paint or dye may be the best bet and even better if left for a few months outside........... I am also going to try to get a look at some of the killer weed up close.

Also seems like some batches of the raffia are lousy quality.

Couple of PMs sent.

Dick, I have the mojo ghillie bundles on my tdb that you shot out of last year. They don't make them anymore. I've also got woven palm mats that work really well but they need to be hung to dry.

I tried this last year . Wally world has those burlap 5x9camo blinds for 10.00 . I folded them length wise , and used a cut off wheel to make 2'' strips 'then cut them 1' long.Zip tie 4 or 5 together then to the netting the older it gets the better it looks . Cheap fix and looks good . For 10 bucks you can't go wrong
