Tdb 17 questions

If you have the HIN, the last two digits are typically the year it was built. Does not look like a Sea Class, unless they made a Sea Class that was different than after the fire? Looks like a Classic, the pointy bow and turtle back are not like any Sea Class I've seen.

No such beast ever was built by TDB until after the fire that occurred after Christian purchase the company from the Clark brothers, which was around 2000. I have a 1996 Classic. That said, I think they started making the 17 Classics in 1989 The first few years of manufacture, the splashwell had two elongated troughs to accommodate the steering cable bars of that era.

After talking with Tom and Elizabeth, it is a 14SC of unknown year. The HIN is DUCxxxxOC11, which should mean that the hull was made in Michigan in 2011. However, they are not aware that any boats were being made by the company in Michigan after the company left Maine.
Long story short, I went, I saw, I bought!

They were made by a fiberglass shop in Fenton, Mi. I have no idea how many or what hull types they turned-out. The new owner bought the molds and inventory from the Poke Boat folks who allowed production to languish. From what I recall there was a dispute over copyright infringement with Duckwater Boats over a couple of hulls they were building that looked quite similar to two TDB molds.. Tony Homer eventually purchased the molds and blind parts inventory from the Michigan owner and moved production to Ohio to start the fourth iteration of TDB.

I just recall that someone had posted on Michigan Sportsman about seeing some TDB-17 SC hulls sitting on trailers inside a compound visible from the expressway. I recall that Freeway Sports had some connection with these boats.
