Just bought a 14 foot TDB. On the bottom there looks like the previous owner put a one inch wood keel on the bottom. Doesn't look like original. Does anyone know if I should leave it, or take it off?

Thanks guys

the 14 tdb is a flat bottom hull that was added on. is it screwed and glassed in place, than leave it on it will help your turning if it is done right . I have owned 2 14 ft tdbs and they slide every turn you make the faster you go the more slide you get good luck with your new boat also i have a stainless set of selves for a 14 tdb custom made your welcome to have im in eastern pa pm if you want them

Thanks guys for the input. It isnt the tdb with the 15 tohatsu. I bought it no engine, but now i picked up a 25hp yamaha. Can't wait to test it out

I would not use trex. I have seen trex crack to many times.
A good piece of White OAK through bolted and 5200 is what all the garveys use on the skegs.
One thing you need to keep in mind is that while the skeg will help you from sliding
it will also have a negitive effect when the boat is against the bank out of water and
you want to push in back in the water.
Whats more inportant to you?
