dean, I had a 89 had the same problem I waited until summer took the motor off rolled it over cleaned it out wiped it down with thinner and then caulked it with 5200 that sealed it . Also if that is happening you should look at your rear floatation box and make sure no water is in there if so than that would need to be fixed also

roll it over clean and remove all you can and reseal.
Also as Rich has stated when you roll It watch for water to come out around the rear foam chambers. If so Leave it sit to drain and you may have to cut into the foam chamber to try and remove the foam as it will be wet and heavy. Then simply refill the same hole with foam and glass back over.
After 25 years of service this is almost expected and the whole seam should be checked and replaced if possible.

Dean, make sure you have a couple of pairs of disposable latex gloves, as well as mineral spirits and a roll of paper towels ready. I really like the hold power of 3M 5200, but it is a bear when clean-up time rolls around-keep it off your hands, clothes and driveway. Life will be much sweeter if you do.
