Thank You Gene!

This website has some of the best people...

I met Gene Jr. on duckboats.net and then in person at the Tuckerton Duck Festival last fall. Gene is an excellent sportsman, duck hunter, and all around gentleman; someone you really enjoy being with in the marsh and in the field.

This past Tuesday Gene took me on a coastal hunt. The fast flying divers and shooting a new gun humbled me; just when I thought I had this thing called "Waterfowling" down. YA RIGHT!

Just to confirm what I've said about Gene, he got up at 2am to meet me at 4am, then drove another 90 minutes with boat in tow to the coast. He allowed me to hunt all day, moved our set-up twice, and chased a cripple for me (no he didn't swim it, but he did burn petrol using his boat) that fell a hundred yards away and swam another 1/2 mile. Thank you Gene for your generosity and an excellent day in the marsh!

Attached are a few pictures of why we duck hunters love waterfowling!

I must be running into a mental block! Thought I was loading up the pics like I had done many times before. Not sure what is going wrong. It's showing in my "Markup" window, but doesn't imbed into the post. Sorry about that! You can see them attached to the post now; just can't get them into the post itself.

Craig,

You are very welcome! You were a joy to hunt with. We'll have to do it again so we can get you a black duck. I hope you can get the pics to work.

In your defense it was not easy shooting. Ducks were not committing well, although we got a lot of lookers.

For all to hear... I have to apologize to Craig, I took the brant decoys along in the truck but didn't put them in the boat. ALWAYS put ALL the decoys in the boat, why bring them if you're not going to put them in the darn boat! We could have used them...

Best wishes,
Gene

Craig, Gene Jr. Looks like a great day, as my hunting partner says it's not the hunt so much as the "war stories". I bet there is a few from this hunt, the early start, decoys and just the day in itself. Like you said Gene, you have to do it again.

I have to second that Gene is a great guy. I went out with him the day after Thanksgiving with my 5 year old boy Kyle. We got into some Buffies right away. The warm weather that day along with a lot of boaters out on the water kept the birds moving pretty well. When the sun started going down more action was had on the bay with the Black Ducks. Glad my shooting was on for the day and I didn't look like a chump. It was such a great day out, I would have been content just sitting in the boat and talking hunting all afternoon.

Gene, I've been pretty busy and was certainly meaning to give you a shout and thank you again. Kyle had a great time. Stupid me didn't bring a camera and my phone was acting up as well and I ended up erasing all my pics that I did take that day.

Cheers,
Mike

Mike,

Luke and I had a great time as well. I've not had a working camera all season and wish that I had. I've missed some great photo ops! Having the two boys along really made the hunt special.

I wanted to tell you, I found your sling in my crate for the longline anchors when Craig and I were out hunting. I'll let you know when I'm coming that way again and we can hook up, hopefully for another hunt.

Thanks for the kind words.

Gene

I figured that I left the sling in your boat. I am ready, willing and able whenever you are. A day or so notice is all that I need.

Have a great holiday Gene and you too Craig.

Cheers,
Mike
