What was the best change you've made to your boat to make it easier/better to hunt from?

I agree with Dave - a Sneakbox with a dodger - AND I added a lap canvas for even more concealment and warmth.

A ladder for the dog was a big deal so we could get her back in in deeper water, but other than that, not much. I bought one of those hand pump bilges which is really slick since my boat leaks a bit and with the dog the water piles in in no time.

In other years I've put a full pop blind on it but just don't find a need for it around here.

Rewired with breaker panel and interior lights. All lights work as intended and are easy to control individually. No more messing around in the dark.

Bilge pump... wired to panel above. Mesh screen around the pump to keep all the miscellaneous grass and seeds that find their way to the bilge from fouling the pump. Helps if it works when you need it.
 
Having everything so that it keeps where it belongs is nice. I put in these retainers a few years back and I've been really happy with how it keeps the anchor boxes in place.

I'm a big fan of my mini console as well. I end up using the GPS and depth finder quite a lot and having them in a good location in a low profile boat is hard - the console does that well. Decoy anchors are also locked in nice too.

Excellent replies. The retainers are a good idea, I will use that in the big Lund.

I was thinking about a gun rack in the little boat. Will have to think about cooking something up.
 
Steve, I agree with you cam-cleats are under utilized. I have 4 in my Bankes for quickly release on temporary anchor lines. This picture shows them inside the port and starboard gunwales. But I would also suggest that my Dave Clark decoys bags may have been the best addition to my duck boat.

Interesting decoy bags.those would be nice, I am interested to see what I can stuff into my new bluebill, something like those would certainly help.

They have worked well. I have had them freeze up, but it hasn't been catastrophic when they did (since I'm using bungee). Like most of us on the coast, most all of my late season frigid gunning is on the salt and that doesn't seem to affect them, but a direct shot of fresh water with the hose in very cold temps will lock them up :).
 
Built Spray dodger that you can sit under for both barnaget and southbay. Not only does it keep you dry going out if you hunt in the rain you stay dry.
I really like the look of a breakwater but the dodger is much better.

Elegant too :), notice it is two different-sized top profiles of the snowgoose layed on one another to make an asymetric form with a sloped front and flat back.
I was pretty proud of that.
