The Ghost Lab story

I can't remember the exact details but looking for a story that went something like :

1. Owner abused a big black lab somewhere around the NE shoreline.

2. The dog swam out for a duck in heavy fog and waves and never came back.

3. Locals reported seeing a dog over the years on an isolated rock but could never catch him . He would disappear when approached.

4. Author of story, while at his old mentors house who had not had a dog since putting down his last, feels a warm nose against his hand and it turns out to be the Ghost lab.

Anybody know this story and the correct copy they can paste?

There was a prose piece that was very similar, published in DU's magazin years ago. The black lab was owned by a waterman who did not appreciate what he had. A waterfowler found the dog either on Rock Island's shore or one of the smaller shoals around the Death's Door passage at the tip of the Door peninsula and took him into his care. Together they formed a strong partnership, both on the water and by the fire. Well written piece. I don't remember the author.

I believe the story is titled "All ghosts aren't white". It is also one of my favorites but I can't seem to find the story online.

I belive this is the story

Hello David,
When I did the internet search I was able to read the whole story.
Just looked at the Index of the book did not realize it was 16 pages long.
You should be able to get the book from a library.
