The Joys of FB Marketplace

I have a bumper kit for my 85 SR5 that I ended up not using so I listed it on facebook marketplace. I've been contacted no less than a dozen people who don't read as evidenced by the fact they think the bumper is ready to mount and even comes with a winch, despite the ad clearly saying it is a kit that must be welded together. Below is a dialog from one person who contacted me who was interested in the bumper for his "buddy"s? Lexus.

No the feeling. Sometimes you begin to think it isn,t even worth the hassle trying to sell something on the interweb. Especially dealing with some of the younger generation whom evidently were not taught to read and comprehend.

HOLY CRAP! Earlier today I posted an ad for a driveshaft from my truck and included a picture and since then I'm getting a nonstop flood of responses from Mexicans asking if the truck is for sale. What is it with these old Toyota trucks and Mexicans? Do they use them to run illegals across the border or traffic young girls? Seriously it is absurd the volume of messages I'm getting.

I have had lots of very good luck buying and selling items thru Facebook Marketplace. But again I'm not buying/selling anything dealing with auto's. Craigslist seems to be nothing but scammers in my neck of the woods.

Woke up this morning to another 30 or so messages from Mexicans wanting to buy my pickup. I'm not making this up, all Mexicans! Jeez they have an affinity for old Toyota trucks.

What you are finding is my experience too when selling a cheap car. The advantage of FM Marketplace over Craigslist, is that you can see the profile, and choose not to respond. Selling a $750 car, got some interesting responses!

Dave I have been doing that just that. Started out by responding "Sold" but got tired of that and just started deleting.

Eric,
Sounds like he could be related to our friend in Gaston, OR.
There is a huge demand for older Toyota pickups in Mexico and Central America. I have been followed and offered cash for my truck from Hispanics several times. I have seen caravans headed south on I-5 of 7-10 Toy pickups each towing another pickup with engines and other parts stacked in the beds.

I knew they were popular with folks south of the border but I never expected this many inquiries. They've been rolling in all day long. I told my wife if I was unscrupulous I could devise a scheme to ripoff people with my pickup as bait.

Maybe we should be concerned since Toyota trucks are the armored personnel carriers of the third world. [;)] [whistle]

Selling our Tundra in the fall was another level from what I've experienced before. The line of stupid questions that were already in the ad - often in the title of the ad (like is the truck a 4x4?). Who buys a 20K truck and doesn't take the time to read an ad?

The thing that amazed me was that hardly anyone said thanks... They ask a question, I respond with details and then crickets...
