The life cycle of a western grebe

As I was looking through some photo's of lately, I thought a few of you guys would enjoy these.

First picture is of a Western grebe

Next pic. is a pr of them staring down each other considering a courtship dance

Next comes the courtship dance, Ah! Im in Love.

Then following is the lady setting on the nest.

Now the work starts with kids on her back and in tow.

Next is the final migration to the coastline of Washington to winter.

Great pics! I'm waiting to see the pic of a bald eagle grabbing one just as it's diving to avoid being a meal...

Great photos. You really captured the magic of the species.

I'll give you and assignment, find some Clark's grebes to photograph. They are very similar but the white cheek markings extend above the eye. Really. Grebe are really sensitive to disturbance so these must be from a lake with low levels of boating and water fluctuation.
 
Where's the photo of the male grebe laying on his back smoking a cig?

Great pictures. Would love to have seen the actual dance in person.
