Hi Bob,
I enjoy looking at nice guns even if they are way out of my league. There are now lots of sites that offer interesting guns and incredable photo's of same. I was surprised to see that $178,000 original Colt .45/70 Gattling gun they had for sale.
I know what you mean about owners personality's. I have a gunsmith that is as cranky as an upset rattlesnake, but he can fix anything! I called him a "grouchy old bastard" a couple weeks ago and he almost smiled at me.
It's hard to believe that there are so many well healed clients out there, but obviously there is because there are so many of these high grade guns dealers around. I remember when William Larkin Moore opend his shop in Westlake Village, CA. (they are now in Mesa, AZ.) Bill Larkin was a really nice guy and we had many a chat about high number guns. His sons have taken over the business.
But they are a small outfit compared to Galazan who claims they actually BUY 25 used guns a day! That to me is incredable, they must have a lot of field reps out beating the bushes for used shotguns?
I spent a couple hours on the way home from our Montana hunt last October at the new Cabela's in Boise, Idaho. They had some nice guns in their GUN ROOM as well as the Elmer Keith Collection in another room.
With all the guns that Calazan has there in CT. it would take a coupel of days just to see it all. Theur 21's are really something and I'm guessing that their average used guns would run about $25,000 or more. I saw one SxS I liked until I saw the price.........$80,000.
