They're Back!

I took a trip up to Long Island last week to see some family and old friends. Well I saw way more than family and friends, I saw Ducks, Ducks, and more Ducks. These Broadbill are in the same place that they were last year, only this year they are a month and a half early. These birds were a mile and a half away, I could only get a portion of the multi mile long line in my frame. It was really exciting to see as many birds as I did. Every millpond along Montauk Highway was packed with Mallards,Gadwals, Pintails, Blackducks, and more. Just about every park or big green grass spot had big bunches of fat old geese on it. North Dakota looked empty this year compared to L.I. Hey L.I. guys I am jealous. I don't remember seeing this many birds back when I was a kid.

Brant anyone? up west I saw nice bunches of Brant allover the marshes. I thought this was pretty good until I came upon the Mother Lode in Zachs bay. Again I could only get about two thirds of the birds in my frame without them looking like nothing more than little black dots.

How about some Geese?

Navy Seals diver hunting? Well I guess if you have to cover a lot of water to find your divers in a hurry, this is the way to do it. A bit different from the old Bay Boats with their pot bellied stoves keeping their cabins nice and warm, that I remember. All in all It was a great trip. I am jealous of you guys up there!

That almost looks like a duck water but I'm not so sure. I wonder what that thing drafts...

Interesting observation on greaters being more numberous and earlier migration this year. My exact same observation from Wet Coast.

Good morning, Rich~

Great news all around! We had a nice Black Duck shoot yesterday afternoon between the Forks - and will gun Great South Bay today. I hope we get to see some of those Broadie-beaks!

All the best,

SJS

Phil - Could you imagine this boat on Pool 9 and the looks of looks of awe it would receive. I bet your next build will be right up there size wise.....
