Put 16 hours on the road yesterday going to pick Thomas (my 8 year old son) up from Camp Woodie. He had a blast.
In his words,
Camp Woodie was lots of fun. We got to shoot shotguns. At the five stand always on number five the skeet comes towards you. That was the only one I could hit everytime. We got to go canoing. We slept in log cabins and built campfires without matches. We used a battery and steel wool and a pocket knife spark thingy. When you scraped your knife on this metal it made sparks and started the fire. On the last day we had shooting competition and a duck calling competition. I didn't win the shooting competition but I WON the duck calling competition. There were a lot of kids who could blow a good duck call. The last call to get points for the competition was a hail call and it counted the most and I did the best.
I have to add that during the awards ceremony Thomas got a prize decoy. The boy that won the shooting competition got the other decoy. When Thomas got his award he was asked to blow the call for everyone. In front of about 150 people I saw my son step up and take the stage. The cost of the camp and the 1800 miles on my Jeep was paid for in that moment.
