thought upon a memory

i walked along the dike
& thought upon
a memory

of a hound
strong and unstoppable

once upon a time

i called him today & he came to me

it was strange and lonely
bitter sweet

he followed me into the brush
rolling in the grass
chasing his nose into impossible thickets of briars

rocking the berries loose so that he could eat them all

splashing in the water
& shaking it all out on me

i laughed for a moment

autumn flowed over me
cast out in leaves from ancient oaks
and giant maples
cartwheeling to the water below
falling free to begin the process all over

in clouds that looked like horses tails whipping a lazy sky

there was no way to stop it

it was death
but beautiful
and with meaning

i laughed for a few moments and let him go by the river
i knew id walk with him again soon

he ran to me under the big cottonwoods
licked my face soaking wet

and i had to dry my eyes on the shoulder of my shirt
before i could walk back up the hill

to go back to work

It is a funny thing about this website
I am not knocking anyone else's

but the folks here
have been a ready audience
and helpful
& good to me

on other sites
I might post up the same post
it will not illicit a response

no one "gets it"

i suppose that art is this way

i like to believe that my words, photos, paintings or my music might pass as "art"

maybe somewhere along the way
someone got something good from it

so it wouldn't be a total bust if someone stumbled across a story
id left behind

Or a pattern or a boat plan etc

you guys get it
the aspect of "pulling it out of the ether" and making it real

and some folks will never be able to get a view like that
no matter how high they stand

Todd some strike me to the core, & some zing over my head like a teal blasting down wind, either way I enjoy following you on your journeys--- keep em coming! Thanks

God Bless Todd, for putting into words what we all feel

Todd

since we hunt the same waters

are neighbors is so many ways

have old hounds

motor the same byways

i enjoy your mental pictures as well as digital

i even purchased a dozen canvasback fakes from you in a previous life

but your words and actions will not elicit illicit responses from me

I like your style Brad.
Hope you have a good opener.

I was driving back from Anya's food cart in St Johns tonight at about sundown

The birds worked across the skyline towards Smith and Bybee lake
lots of em.

I won't get out for another month Todd. I am still getting through the summer chores and making sawdust in the shop. Hope school is going well and that you still have the bomber. Heading east towards the rising sun and chicken-like birds?
