we landed in Portland, grabbed our rental car and started our journey. Literally less than 20 minutes of drive time and we saw brakes lights. We slowed down and I looked in the rear view. The ptcruiser behind me decided not to stop. We all were ok even the 31 week pregnant 22yo driving the ptcruiser. Thank god Nikki didn't have to deliver a baby on vacation. That lady would have gotten a bill, lol.

We drove to Beaverton, got another chevy cruise (I'm actually very impressed with how it handled the impact), unfortunately without heated seats like its predecessor to the dismay of Nikki and we finally began our vacation. We are taking all the pics of cool stuff with the dslr so important pics will be posted later

What a drag!


I am glad you guys are a-ok.
Think of it like this,
now all of the bad stuff is out of the way and you can get on with your vacation.


It is going to be smooth sailing from here on out.

You guys should have falling out of the car and start flopping like a fish out of water. You would have been able to buy more land or a bigger house with the settlement money. Glad you guys are OK and as my buddy used to tell his kids when they would go out on the town don't do nothing stupid.

Todd that was exactly what we thought should be smooth sailing from here.

Pete I was just happy that the girl had insurance.

The cops are way nicer out here it is unbelievable. people stopped right away too, an off duty emt was there 30 seconds after we got out of the car which is good she dealt with the pregnant lady.

Also we went to the oyster house in garibaldi Wednesday is all you can eat oysters!!! And the oyster chowder is good too. Can't forget to was it down with a local oyster stout either

I understand completely,
Last year in montana we stayed at a cabin on the blackfeet reservation east of glacier park.
On my drive to purchase a fishing permit I nailed a nice 6x6 mulie at 65mph
Limped back to the cabin with parts dragging.

My conversation with the insurance company was not reassuring.
Adjuster "I show a town called babb, can you get it fixed there?
Me "babb, consists of a bar and maybe a gas pump"
Aduster "how far away is the nearest repair facilities?"
Me"uuhhh, maybe great falls 3 or 4 hours away, one way"
Adjuster "............................."
Me ""good neighbor, I am stuck on an Indian reservation with wife , daughter and two grandchildren with reservations in the park I made two years ago and no way to get there"
Adjuster" can you rent a car?"
Me (after hysterical laughter) " in glacier park during the busiest season during the busiest year on record?" And if I could it's a. 2 hour round trip by car, if I had one".

Things turned out ok but it was a long, long long time on the phone
 
Is that big bowl full of crab bisque?

I love oysters
all day and everyday

If any day exists between them
I'll fill it with oysters too

Sometimes it is fun to do a half dozen on the half shell before dawn

Anya used to make shooters with vodka and some kind of hot sauce
but i had to wake her up before the sunrise

that kind of stuff works out ok in stories
but in real life...

you might want to get a bottle of hot sauce and a quart of oysters
and go for it all on your own

Not sure of season, or limits. But in the face of being grounded from ground fish, perhaps digging clams would cover you a bit. Like a nicotine patch to a smoker maybe, but it could get through our fits.

An ex-girlfriend's father lived in Oregon. He would wax on and on about Geoduck clams. He always said "gooey duck", but he was originally from Montana, so I don't know if that is local lexicon.

Apparently they are a challenge because they bury themselves so deep and are quick to pull their shoots back into the soil. I guess like a night crawler: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoduck

That's about all of my NW USA super powers. Good luck. And as you go/grow, sometimes the thing we need is the challenge more than the quarry. When I quit smoking I didn't miss the inhale as much as the "habit". Hunt, kill, eat, share.

As a "grounded" journeyman, I look forward to your travels.

We made it to the north end of siletz yesterday. There was a guy digging for clams on a flat, no oyster take in Oregon but if you bought them from a local farm I'm sure they are cheap enough.

Apparently ocean salmon is closed also, so people were lined up in siletz lots of harbor seal in the bay to. I have been talking to lots of locals but it seems like salmon rules everyone's minds. No one knew of the ground fish closure.

We saw a few chinook get pulled from the nestucca in pacific city. Seems like lots of casting for 1 fish but damn they get big. Looks like the salty ice fishing crowd from back home lots of beers flowing early but a few more joints being rolled, the whole legal weed thing is kind of quirky.

Apparently stripers are gaining steam in Coos and there are reports of California halibut there too, they are basically unregulated. There are rock scallops, abalone, dungeness/red rock crab, urchin to dive for too. Lots to keep my ever expanding palate happy

We ate at pelican bay brewery which is on the beach at pacific city, what a spot!!! Off to Coos today then brookings tomorrow. Meeting with realtor on Monday.
