Too good to be true?

Have any members here had experience with Total Boat brand aluminum paint?
They claim that it doesn't need to go over a primer coat. It's OK to put over bare metal......that claim makes me a little leery,

Bare metal can be a lot of different things. E.g. clean and shiny, or dull with texture, maybe even contaminants. A lot of variables in play. For me the time to get something ready to paint is the big factor. Shooting another coat is pretty trivial. Thus, skipping the priming step and still having to paint isn't really much of a time savings. I'd rather use a proven primer/paint system than skip a step. The risk isn't worth the time and cost savings. Repainting and dealing with poorly adhering paint is a MAJOR headache.

Personally it's all in the prep. I have used some of the total boat products, but haven't used any of there
paint products.

I agree with Eric about prep. I used Lou's paints for my southbay boat about 15 years ago. Followed Lou's prep instructions and the paint has no flakes, chips or fading.
