Torqeedo Electric Motors

Has anyone used one of these? https://www.torqeedo.com/us/en-us/products/outboards/travel

I’m pretty intrigued! I’m not in love with the old 6HP Evinrude that my sneakbox came with. Though it’s been making do, I’ve been casually looking at electric alternatives. I know Mercury has some electric offerings, too, but these are a bit more budget friendly and lightweight. I’m curious if anyone has any experience or knowledge of these.

Havent used but seen a lot of them, especially on pump out boats in the marinas. How does it do against the cold would be my biggest question. Same reason I drive a gasoline vehicle

Well thats pretty cool, never thought we'd see an electric longtail.

We have one that we use a a side-mount auxiliary for our sailboat. It works well, but if you need service, service locations are few and far between.

The top-mount battery is heavy. I moved the battery to a permenant location in a locker in the boat and rigged a controller mounted in the cockpit. Removing the battery, housing, tiller etc cut the weight of the unit way down and made deploying it much easier for an old guy. I assume that you would be mounting it on the transom of a duck boat, so all of that retroffiting would be unnecessary.

Here's another electric motor to look at.

It would be cool to have an electric mud motor or longtail. Of course, the question is how long the run time is on a charge. And as I expected, it can't be very long as they sidestep answering that very question on their website. Not even a best case, sunny day guesstimate. Call me when you make it practical fellas.

I'm not really an electric guy. With these surface drive mud motors though, I think it makes sense. Smaller so you don't have this massive chunk of engine on the back of your rig. Quiet too. I am sorry but I find these mud motors and surfaces drives just obnoxiously loud.

Me too, and I have one that's a game changer in the salt marsh. Wonderful tool, but I agree, obnoxiously loud is an apt description. I hope the electric version becomes practical in my lifetime.

Couldnt agree more.... I HATE HATE HATE running mine due to how loud it is. If it wasnt such a necessity, I wouldnt have one. I have one run thats 14 miles long one way, its most aggravating then. Nothing is worse than the airboat that we once had though. It didnt last long, but you could wake up every bird on the lake from the boat ramp with that thing. Theres nothing better than the outboard world imo, but I know it couldnt get to one or two of my holes.
