Transom on BBSB build

Posting a question for a friend who is in the process of building so forgive me if it's not from the 1st person.

BUILDING A 15' BBSB WITH A VERTICAL STERN AND AM LOOKING TO CREATE A TRANSOM THAT WILL ALLOW ME TO RUN THE MOTOR AT THE "NEGATIVE ANGLE" THAT WILL ALLOW BEST PERFORMANCE. THINKING OF RAISED MOUNTING PLATE OUT OF ALUMINUM WITH MULTI-POSITION HEIGHTS AND QUICK DETACH THAT WOULD ALLOW MOTOR REMOVAL DURING LAYOUT/TRAVEL. HOPING TO RUN A 10-15HP 2 STROKE.

Thank you for any ideas/experiences and/or pictures.

Chip~

Here is an angled motor board I made for a friend last fall.

http://www.duckboats.net/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=272447;search_string=motor%20board;#272447

As you can see, I cut 2 wedges and glued them to the inside - between the motor board and the hull - to get the 15-degree transom angle that works for most outboards.

The top of the motor board to the bottom of the transom should be ~15 inches for short shaft (15-inch) motors.

I am a "no moving parts" guy wherever possible (although, Yes, I do shoot a Winchester Model 12.....). I am not sure I see the benefit of the "quick-detach" because backing off the 2 mounting screws takes just a few moments.

I would, though, have a safety chain or line between the motor and the boat to keep from dropping the motor overboard.

BTW: I will probably be making such a board for my Sneakbox RED-LEG - next season.

Hope this helps,

SJS

Hey thanks for the info guys...He is not an internet guy so I'm the intermediary for this one. I'll pass pics along and let him know about the Jack. Thanks!

Steve:

Thanks for the pictures- that is exactly the info I needed.I just cut out the transom motor mount for a 13' BBSB and was wondering about the mount angle. Tomorrow I will be cutting out wedges. Thanks for posting.
