Traveling Decoys...last year's and this year's

Well, October is almost upon us, some of you have already kicked off your seasons and some of you are getting prepped. Usually by now someone brings this up, to which I get things cranking and we "get the show on the road" so to speak. I've been busier than a squirrel at a peanut festival, but am still ready to get something going again.

For those of you who might be new or unfamiliar with the concept, it breaks down like this...one or two of the talented decoy makers on the site donates a handmade decoy. That decoy then gets shipped around the continent to fellow members who hunt over the decoy, post up on the Page about their adventures, and record it in the journal that accompanies the decoy on the adventure and goes up for auction with the decoy. After the season the decoy(s) get auctioned off here.

This is open to any and all members, new or old, it is a great opportunity to get involved, get to know your fellow hunters and let them get to know you too.

So, who's in?

Chuck

PS I still have to auction off last years deeks...details coming soon!

I'd love to host the decoy this year, late in the season, over the weekend of Jan 15-18 would be great.

Good morning, Chuck~

I have been wondering about the Traveler....

I will make the same offer I did last year. I would much prefer that some other carver(s) get all the glory - but am happy to contribute if needed. It would probably be this Wigeon - unless I sell him this coming weekend. The main HQ of Orvis has invited me to show/sell my wares this Saturday and Sunday - so he could be snatched up by some deep-pocketed shopper. But, I imagine I would still have another gunner on hand to donate.

More important - it's RAINING ! We already have 4 inches since yesterday and our dust bowls are once again becoming duck water - just in time for our October 10 opener. And, I have my fingers crossed that Tropical Storm Joaquin will do right by us later in the week.

All the best,

SJS

Would love the opportunity to over the decoy over Christmas break with my father. Around the second week or so of December.

Widgeon are on my bucket list! I have added a few decoys to try to entice them so I would very much love to get in on the Traveler again if possible, regardless of the species.

I would like to host one of the toy ducks for the last week of December, maybe 12/26 (or 27th) thru January 2 (or 3rd) or so.

We usually take our trip to the east coast that week. I've had a real good time hosting in the past.

Would enjoy taking part in this years travelling decoy chuck. I there are too many others interested, I'll pass and let others enjoy the event. Season has already started but anytime between now an 60 days from now would be my available time.

I haven't had a chance to participate that I can remember. I'd like a shot at hosting a decoy in November if possible. Thanks.

I would love to host mid Oct if it works out. I would like to add, if it gets too crowded or short on time, let someone else a chance to participate in this program. I have not only hosted many of the footloose travelers but have a couple on the shelf between three boxes of my old dog's ashes. It is a privilege to be able to share these works of art and show them a good time.

By the way, I have been fortunate enough to have participated in the last several years. While I would sure like to again this year, I too would be willing to pass to allow someone else the opportunity this season if the schedule gets tight.
