My local river is all locked up with ice. Three days of single digit lows with low twenties for high brought the ice man.

I had a decent season. Didn't spend as many days in the duck boat as I could have due to splitting my time with some deer and turkey hunting. I was able to harvest two deer and a fall turkey during the archery season.

The last duck I shot was the Wednesday before thanksgiving. A group of three Woodie's came in and one stayed behind. Typically all the Woodies have moved on by the date in the season.

Good luck to all of you still hunting.

Water being splashed was freezing on the support pole. This was Wednesday before thanksgiving. The river is solid ice now.

Sounds like a good season. Congrats. I saw a Woodie on the river yesterday. To far for a shot as I sat there thinking that bird didn't get the memo. No venison so far this year. The summer flood drove the deer off the islands for the most part. So far I've seen a doe with a fawn and a yearling which got a pass and two small bucks, neither offering a clear shot.

Hmmmm....that last photo.....????? Am I correct in "seeing" a shotgun barrel pointing skyward? I'm surprised your hand is not on the "forearm" but presume your other hand is on the trigger???? You certainly have a good hide!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving,

SJS

HaHa, That was my first thought as well! I needed a double take to figure it out.

That's my new toy for this season. Makes for a good attention getter. The paddle first spins for 5 seconds in one direction, off for 5 seconds, then spins the other direction for 5 seconds. Real easy on batteries too, one set of four alkaline batteries lasted two mornings, although I did invest in rechargeable lithium, to use in it.

Interesting gadget. I can see where it might do well in small water, on a bluebird day, or in a nice lee. I'm a sucker for toys, I can't use one of those much because we hunt tidal water for the most part. I do use jerk strings a bit, some days they work others I swear they scare the birds. Naturally my wife insists they call it a jerk string because of who's doing the pulling.

So do you expect that spinner might attract walleye? Looks like it might fit right in an 8" hole in the ice. You might try it in a few days, and report back. ;)
