True trophy and a RARE beauty

I wish this was my bird, but it's not. I'm just glad I got to be part of process of getting it to the taxidermist and then back to customer once finished.

And Carl, all of those came from your neck of the woods!

And I have a pretty good idea of where they came from!
We had no shortage of redheads this year, but that was just about all in "that spot". Not many scaup at all after the 2nd week or so of the season.

Beautiful birds, dont see many blonde redheads, that for sure! What kinda mount?

The customer left the mount up to the taxidermist, I would probably say a flying pose. The top left drake in the table pic will be mounted along with the "blonde". She was definitely an old bird and surprised she has made it that far! I'm just curious how many offspring she might have out there.

That is a beautiful bird. I'll bet that when it was first seen it probably looked like an albino from a distance. The only one I have ever seen was a hen pintail that I held while working with a group of biologists banding ducks at Bosque del Apache.

Thanks for sharing that blonde red head--the first blonde duck I've ever seen. Also, a first, is a blonde (grey) squirrel that comes to our feeder. I have pictures if someone would be kind enought to post them for me.

It seems that hen redheads have some cool stuff in the gene pool. I have seen some very odd ones down here on the coast during my time guiding for them. I shot this one two seasons ago on Nueces bay. I watched her with my spotting scope for two days rafted up in the middle. I had to wait for a nasty weather day and hunt the closest island. sure enough she came in to the leeward side to hand out around mid morning. Now she's on the wall!
