Broaching the subject of Tuckerton with my fiance tonight. She got a new job a few months ago and has 9 vacation days to use or lose by the end of the year. So why not a trip to Tuckerton? I've always wanted to go but just could never make it happen. I'm thinking drive down Thursday morning, then give her Thursday afternoon and all day Friday to do "Stacey things". She is into antiquing, "junk store" shopping, jewelry, having lunch overlooking the water, etc. I get Saturday. Then we have a nice breakfast Sunday and head back to Taxland (CT). I thought there was usually a DU event on Saturday evening but nothing is listed at the DU website. At this late date is there any chance of finding close lodging so that most of it is walking distance, or will I be finding lodging 10 mile out and commuting in, depending on my negotiating skills?

I have only been once - about 10 years ago - but Susan and I stayed out on the beach on Long Branch Island. I recall the motel being reasonably-priced. And, the ride to and from Tuckerton takes you over the Bay and marshes.

I am going solo this year - showing my Sneakbox - and will likely stay with a friend.

All the best,

not much in the way of hotels with in walking distance of the show. Plenty in the area though and being as its after labor day they should be reasonably priced. If she likes antiquing and the such there is an abundance of such stores right along route 9. If you stay just a few miles north in manahawkin there is plenty of mom and pop stores that you can walk between and most likely can find a nice place to stay. The only driving you would have to do is when you actually come to the show. You can always find spots to park along great bay blvd

My suggestion to you is to stay on Long Beach Island. There are plenty of places to stay, especially at either end, the beaches are really nice, it is a specatacular time of year to be there, and you are back across the causeway in about 20 minutes on the mainland and to Tuckerton in 30 minutes. There is also a Holiday Inn in Manahawkin, and I am sure it is fine, but it is just like every other Holiday Inn, no view of anything, and probably around the same price. Cape May is about an hour south on the Garden State Parkway if you want to take a drive there. Route 9, which pretty much parallels the Parkway, has the local towns.

Im sure the Holiday inn is full, stay on the island or south towards Atlantic City and Thats a great place for the evening if your like that kind of thing. We hit AC Saturday night for a nice dinner and a little gambling every year.

Also if she really likes shopping take a ride down to the historic Smithville. Tons of little nick knack stores and it's a peaceful little place. Get some fries with lunch at Fred and ethels lantern light inn. Best fries I've ever had

Cape may winery has a great tour at 2:00 everyday. $20 each and worth it. Tons of nice shops in town . The west end garage, plus the lighthouse and fun eating. The cape is at least and hour from tuckerton.

Also lots to see and do on LBI and that's super close. More shops and galleries, old Barney plus plenty of fun restaurants. Allens clam bar , Tuckerton pub etc
