Good morning, All~

I just posted a Tutorial on my site for painting Homer Brant. The full step-by-step - beginning with coating and priming the birds - is there at: https://stevenjaysanford.com/tutorial-painting-homer-brant/

Here I stay within the 10 photo limit to give you a taste. Here's the Behr Paint Schedule:

I coated these birds with my usual epoxy from u. s. composites but used Homer Coat - a custom blend of more finely-ground walnut shells than I had tried from Harbor Freight (too coarse) instead of my usual sawdust.

All the birds are primed with an oil primer to fill some of the voids in the coat. If the coat is too rough, I have found that the decoys can be impossible to rid of fine mud.

As usual, I work from stern to stem.....

Most of the paint lines are molded into the body.

Although a quick bout with fine sandpaper would be better, I just hit the hardware with Self-etching Primer from Rustoleum.

The back should be blended - darker aft, lighter forward.

I use a "formula" for suggesting the barring on the sides.

Dark and light feather edgings do the trick.

The necklace is the last little detail.....

Hope this is useful!
