Two dogs instead of just one.

Neat story Al. I took Lucy for a pheasant hunt for a couple of hours Saturday afternoon. No pheasants but I shot a goose. Lucy would have nothing to do with it. All she would do is bark at it and run around in circles. I wish she had a mentor as good as Habi because I didn't want to pick up the goose in my mouth either!

Well, Ed, I think that one of these days, Lucy will surprise you. Be patient. Pups can do funny things. I can still remember the first duck hunt Chili went on. Three guys opened up to our left and the barrage scared the hell out of her. She took off out of the blind and when I found her she was sitting on the Kawasaki 4-wheeler ready to go home!

Hi Fred,
Well, that one decoy is doing the stretch. Bev bought me a Mojo spinning wing back in 03 for my birthday. Last spring after the season was over she bought me this one. What I have found out so far is that when it operates on a timer, the sandhill cranes don't flare. When the light geese arrive, I will see how they react to it, also. I find these behaviors interesting.

Al.....Speaking of team work. On my last Saturday's hunt we knocked down a big ole Canada Goose of the maximus variety. My 1 yr old wirehair and my buddies 8 yr old Golden Lab swam off after it which was about 40 yds away. My younger faster wirehair swam to it first and the goose still had plenty off fight left in it. I figured this was going to be interesting since this was her first goose retrieve. When she got to it the goose was hissing and snapping at her but she didn't back down. She grabbed that thing by the head and held on. By this time the lab had gotten to the goose. Instead of both dogs fighting over it, they both swam back with it side by side. She had the head and he had the body. Wish I had photos or a video. My wirehair later tracked after a goose into some dense cattails. I heard alot of thrashing/scuffeling going on but she came out with it. I think with a little more refinement and experience she's going to be a good one.
