U.P. layout hunting

Last weekend was supposed to be my first diver hunt over my own carved decoys. What a great feeling it was to set long lines in 10 ft of water and then to find out that my carved decoys only have 7 foot droppers....oh well. I still floated a few around my Fatboy.

For 7 days straight, we've had high winds and stormy weather right up until Saturday morning - the day of our hunt. The two foot whitecaps that had been there the night before turned into glass by 6 am.

It was a beautiful day with some fast shooting. This is my friend's Bass Tracker "duck blaster" boat going a chase after a drake GE that would not die. He finally got it and it was a real beauty.

This is a picture that I've been waiting to take for a very looooooong time. The buffie decoy that I carved this winter did his job. I couldn't be happier with the trip. I wish I didn't have to work:(

Now all we need is this beautiful 68 F Indian summer weather to blow out of here so we can duck hunt this weekend in rain, wind, and snow! After all, it is November, right?

Good luck and be safe.

Dave,
Glad you had a good and safe trip. I hope you brought some birds back down with you for the rest of us. I noticed you said you hunted over your own carved decoys (plural). Wow, I thought I traded you for the only one you ever finished. Glad to see you're picking up the pace on carving. Sorry, I had to bust your chops before Chuck got on here this morning. Great pics and congrats on birds over your own blocks!!

Looking good. It always amazes me how fast the water can go from 2' chop to glass and vice versa!

David,
Very nice! (i'm a bit green with envy!) :-)
Congrats on getting into some action in da UP, eh!!

Best,
Brian F.

Very cool pics. Da U.P. is an interesting place. Family just got a deer camp up there but I am not one for woods donkeys so I have begun to look for ducks. Found a few spots and a got a couple hunts in during the short time I was there.
