V boards

I'm looking to make a rig of V boards for brant. Any body have a design for the gear box/bracket for floating v boards. Also what is the best wood/sealer to use. Thanks for any info u can provide. Jeff

Simple V board warning: If you plan on using V-boards in current you may be disappointed in how much drag is on each assembly. Roughly 15 years ago I made a set of Scoter V-Boards but was never happy with them. The tidal currents along CT's eastern shore proved too much. 3 V-sets and 4 plastic decoys on a line would drag a 3# mushroom anchor backed up by a 5# dive weight. Sleds on the other hand provide much less drag and work very well.

Depends on what you use for the silhouettes. The lighter silhouettes are generally less tough, while heavier material takes larger connection/float boards. I've had delamination issues this year with a few sillies. But I used as light a ply as available, and got away with the 3/4" X 3" connection boards. If I make them again I may use a double layer of FRB (fiberglass reinforced panel) to keep them light but very tough.

Can y'all see the images when you pull up the link to the old thread? I cant, but it might be an issue with our internect connection.

In any case, I used buffie y-boards for years. They work great. We dont have much current to deal with though.

I used flat grey or green spray paint on the arms & center plate and oil-based paint on the sillouhettes. They lasted for years.
