Playing in the lakes without getting hypothermic was a real treat for the kids.

Catfishing. I always wanted to try baiting a hole for cats by sinking a large bait like a road killed coon or deer or something and then coming back in a day or so to see what's around. Well, lucky day, the day I arrived in Hamiota Andy's wife had shot a cat the night before and he had to dispose of the body. So I slid a bunch of rocks in the garbage bag with it and launched it out into a big back eddy. The bag rolled, didn't sink, and was last seen headed towards Winnipeg. Drat! Now I'll never know if my plan would have worked.

They have a new category at the Fair in Hamiota now - recycled stuff. I thought this should have gotten first, but the judges ruled it a third because of the holes in the dustpan. A little duct tape would fix that.

"What are you gonna catch with that?"

Fishing in Kenora. Its good they mark the reefs for us tourists.

Mac's crayfishing bateau. He must have fed me a couple of hundred at least!

View attachment DSCF2014.jpg

While he was waiting for his traps to fill, him and Meg would fish off the dock for more lobsters. They had a fish head tied to a rod and Meg would pull them up slowly with the soft touch, while Mac would nab them at the surface before they could let go.

Caught a few bass by accident.

Nice bucket of eaters. I love walleye breaded and fried in lard.

And that's about it. I haven't had a chance to resize any of the sheep hunt pics, but as soon as I do I'll post a few.

Mike,

Thanks for sharing the pictures; they were great. Looks like the whole family had a great time.

You were correct, the caterpillar you took a picture of was a Monarch caterpillar. Dave called the badger right. Not sure about green snake.

Hope your healing well!

Craig

Mike,

Yep, I shipped two boxes of fish home just before July 4th. That turned out to be more expensive than planned but after a few meals of it at home already, I've decided it was worth it.

We have those snake here in Al. They are just green snakes, "grass snakes," etc. harmless and fun to catch. Good snake to introduce a kid to so they know not all snakes are "bad" as the general public would have you to believe.

If your baiting for catfish , take an old burlap bag throw in some dog food and a rock , chunk it , come back next day.
don't know about the kitty technique , but the dog food sure does work !!! They can smell it, and taste it , but can't get to it.

when your ready to head down to the "REAL" South let us know.......
