Vermiculation technique

Yessir, use oil base paint pens on the flocking. Same concept. I did a blue wing, green wing and cinnamon attempt at my first decorative ever. They may be my last lol.

yep, paint pens are a fantastic tool for many applications especially vermiculation. I get Zobbx Permanent Paint Pens Markers on amazon, they are oil based permanent markers and hold up well outdoors. the box of 28 has a lot of shades of colors like grey and brown, not available in other purchases.

The big issue is they are glossy, but that doesn't matter on flocking, but it would on your painted decoys. I'm guessing you could spray the decoy with dull coat.

I paint thousands of steel cut outs with and airbrush and use paint pens for a lot of the fine detail, but they are glossy.

I used paint pens extensively on this blue grouse foamer, but it's flocked.

I noticed the shine. Frustrating but not insurmountable. I spray all my birds with Behr clear matte finish to help protect the paint long term and ensure an overall dull finish. Seems to work.
Sitting here with a cup of tea and some sore fingers. This pintail is 1/3 done. So tedious. Labor of love that's for sure.
Beautiful blue.

Post pics when done, would love to see

I think I have two fingers that are permanently sore from airbrush and paint pens. I find myself gripping too hard all the time, but the habit is ingrained to the point that isn't going to change. I'm about to put vermiculation on 6 canvasbacks tomorrow, I'll use several shades of grey. I used to do that all by hand with paint brushes, so much mixing and loading, the paint pens let you just keep going.
