Originally did this preening pose years ago with the drake for a pintail pair that Hitch has. I always wanted to do a cork gunner using the same idea, so I carved an extra head while doing another frond preener this fall. Finally got around to drawing the pattern last month, and here's the finished cork version:

I did take a lot of pictures of the entire process with this decoy and would post them up if anyone is interested. Not any sort of a 'tutorial' mind you - just kind of a "boat build" progress pictorial - but for a decoy.... + and you can still steal any good ideas you see.
Sean Peters, the old webmaster for the former MLB site sent me all the files for my Carving Cork Gunning Decoys series that was in the reference section there for years. I do plan to re-work and update all of them sometime, and can probably incorporate some of the pictures from this bird when I eventually get to that...... After all, I need another project.
