Waders

Going to invest in some new waders. I am looking at cabelas 1600 5mm's. Any opinions on them or other waders? I like to hunt and want a good wader. Damn this sport is addictive.

We have two pairs of the Cabelas 1600, Absolutly the bwst waders I or my son have ever worn although they're heavy you'll never get cold.

Not to steal your tread or anything, but I'm in the market for a new pair of waders myself. I'm looking at the cheaper boot sock waders that cabelas sells for about 50 dollars for early season. You have to purchase the wader boots, but with inexpensive waders they can be replaced without breaking the bank. Anyone with any experience with these? The reviews on cabelas says that they are excellent. Thanks.

I got a pair of the Drake LSt waders a couple of years ago, cann't say enough positive about them.

First, my feet always got cold before, no matter what pair or who made them, still get cold, but no where near as before.

Second, they are lined, one less pair of sweat or wading pants to put on.

Lastly, except for the boot being to big, they fit. Every other pair I have owned were not long enough, these are.

Love and will alway have a pair from now on.

Why dont you finish your posts Robie so you can post on the classifieds like you should be. I was wanting to know about some waders, not looking for you a set of waders. I read the reveiws, I just wanted to hear from the members of the website. Did you really not want to highjack my thread. That is not a question.

I appologize John, it was wrong of me to do that. I just thought a discussion on varoius waders would be quite interesting. Sorry.

I've got the 1600's as well. Great in cold weather. Can be a bit too much on less than cold days, for me at least. The material has proven to be quite sturdy in the two seasons that I have had them. The boots are very bulky.

If those are the "super mags" they are the bomb if you dont plan on doing any hiking in them, They are really warm. Again if you are lugging gear and hiking a distance they can be too warm

As already stated, the Cabelas 1600 5mm waders are a good wader. Durablility on mine was great. They are very warm and heavy, enough so that you may notice it on a good hike. I had a pair of the 5mm, 1000 gram LaCrosse waders that were lighter weight and a very good wader, but they only make that model now with velcro suspenders, which I can't handle. I'm going to purchase a pair of the Cabela's LightMag waders (3.5mm, 800gram boot) for walk-in spots and see how they do. Good luck with your purchase.

Thanks Bryan, I hope your purchase goes well also. I already have lighter waders and hip boats. Just need something heavier on those days you know the birds will come as soon as you leave. There really isnt a whole lot of choices on wader brands. John

I have the Mack's big ditch waders and they are awesome. I have had the cabelas waders in the past, I think the Mack's ones are much nicer. Just my $0.02!

I agree with the guys. IMHO the 1600 is the best cold weather wader made. They are very durable and the warmest I have ever used. That being said they are not the end all wader. You will not be happy lugging these beasts on your feet all day unless it is getting down below freezing. They are just too warm and heavy to be an everyday wader. I would suggest going with a pair of breathable for the majority of the days and these for your go to cold weather days. I wear mine when it is below 20 otherwise my thighs sweat too much and I end up getting cold from being damp. I realize 2 pair is expensive but, if you are alternating for the right conditions both should last you a long time. But to directly answer the question. YES. These are great waders!

I bought 1600's two years ago. Poked a hole in them on the first or second time out without really being in any nasty stuff. Cabelas replaced without a problem.

I only wear these in cold weather since I have other waders for warmer weather. They are plenty warm for me.

One negative is on the length of the legs. I am 6ft tall and wear a size 12. The legs have a lot of extra length. A size twelve seems to have an inseam lenght for someone about 6ft 4in. I keep pulling the legs up to the crotch because I dont want the roll above the boot to cause a leak. Hope that makes sense.

1600 are definitly the best I've owned. I could get ahole in kevlar waders and mine have yet to puncture. My feet would freeze in october prior to the 1600's also. As for weight? yeah there heavye and are the size of mickey mouse boots but the farthest I walk is from truck to boat / launch. How's that BB coming?

Be carful of sizing, I wear a size 12 but am only right at 6'/180lbs. I never could cinch them down enough at the top and it seemed like there was room for my lab in there as well :) Ended up selling them, even though they seemed to be well made.

John,

As long as you don't need to go hiking for miles in them, you'll love em in cold weather. We bodyboot in the Chesapeake in January and my brother and I both wear the 1600 super mag. My feet and legs have never gotten cold standing in that water. On the last day we hunted, water temp was 33 degrees and after 4 hours, the only thing cold was my head and neck from the wind.

That being said, you'll work up a sweat picking up decoys as these waders are very warm and very heavy (we had 130 dekes to collect and were downright hot and worn out by the time we were done). Durability has been great...sliding over the gunwales and handling wood-and-metal v-boards...no leaks (knock on wood!)

Here is another Super Mag lover.

2 guys I hunt with now use them as well since they are always getting cold. We range from me at 6'4" 275 with size 13 boot to guys that are 5'10 250 with size 11 and all 3 of us have no problem with fit or any other issues. Simply love them especially in late season.

I was glad they got rid of the velcro straps and went to a snap in deal, the older model with velcro tore up the inside of my coat pretty good. If you hunt in the cold, these will keep you warm. As stated, serious walking or early season...well...think of it as a sweat lodge and it will do you good to lose a little extra 10 pounds in one day.
